Chapter 2 - Ten Seconds

The confusion on Dominic’s face turned into a flash of wounded pride. He didn't like the way she was looking at him—not as a master, but as an obstacle. He didn't like the sudden, grounded shift in her posture.

“Don't get clever with me, Elena,” he snapped, his voice losing its smooth, theatrical cadence. A dark, ugly anger flared in his eyes. Wanting to reassert immediate dominance and provide a dramatic climax for the hidden camera, he swung the riding crop toward her shoulder in a fast, aggressive arc.

He expected her to cower, to scream, or to try and run.

Elena moved before it reached her.

To Dominic, the world became a blur of motion. Elena didn't flinch away from the blow; she stepped into it, effectively closing the distance and neutralizing the arc of the crop. Her left hand shot forward like a striking viper, her fingers locking around his right wrist with a grip of absolute iron.

Before he could even register the pain in his joint, Elena executed a flawless transition. Using his own forward momentum against him, she pivoted on the ball of her left foot, sliding her body deep inside his guard. She secured his extended arm tightly against her shoulder, pulling his center of gravity entirely off-balance. With a swift, powerful rotation of her hips, she swept his legs out from under him using a classic sweeping technique.

Dominic’s feet left the ground entirely.

He hit the floor hard, the breath exploding from his lungs in a violent, ragged gasp. The riding crop flew from his hand, clattering uselessly across the hardwood floor.

The entire exchange lasted less than five seconds.

Dominic lay flat on his back, his mind reeling from the sudden, catastrophic impact. His vision swam as he tried to understand how his fragile, submissive bride had just thrown him to the ground like a sack of grain. He groaned, instinctively trying to roll over and push himself up, but Elena was already moving.

Before he could establish his bearings, she dropped her knee directly into the small of his back, pinning his torso to the floor with immense, focused pressure. She grabbed his right arm, twisting it behind his back into an agonizingly precise shoulder lock.

“What are you doing?” he gasped, struggling frantically beneath the hold, his face pressed uncomfortably against the edge of the polished floor. “Let me go! Are you insane? I'll destroy you for this!”

Elena leaned closer, her breath warm against his ear, contrastingly cold against his panicked skin. “Here's a rule you should remember, Dominic,” she said quietly, her voice entirely devoid of anger, carrying only the detached authority of a master teacher. “Never underestimate someone whose past you never bothered to learn.”

For all of Dominic’s expensive background checks and corporate vetting, he had only looked at what she wanted him to see. He had looked at her family’s recent financial struggles and her quiet academic career. He had never bothered to look into her childhood, her teenage years, or the fact that her father had raised her in the martial arts dojos of Okinawa, where she had earned a first-degree black belt in shotokan karate before she was old enough to drive. She had spent a decade mastering the art of redirection, leverage, and absolute physical discipline. Dominic’s clumsy, arrogant aggression was nothing more than child's play to her.

Elena maintained the lock with her left hand, ensuring he couldn't move an inch without risking a dislocated shoulder. With her right hand, she reached beneath the decorative dust ruffle of the bed, pulling out a sealed, heavy manila envelope she had hidden there earlier that afternoon while setting up her bridal luggage.

With a swift movement, she tossed the envelope onto the floor directly in front of his face.

The seal was already broken. Sliding out from the cardboard enclosure was a stack of legal documents, crisp and heavily detailed. At the top of the first page, printed in bold, unyielding font, were the words: PETITION FOR IMMEDIATE MARITAL ANNULMENT ON THE GROUNDS OF FRAUD AND COERCION.

“Sign,” Elena commanded softly.
