PART 4 — THE FAMILY SHE NEVER KNEW SHE HAD

The photograph slipped from Elena’s fingers.
It landed in the rain.
But she didn’t move to pick it up.
She couldn’t.
Her mind was stuck on one sentence.
Olivia Carranza.
A woman she had never heard of.
A woman Matthew recognized instantly.
A woman who was supposed to be dead.
“Matthew,” Elena whispered.
Her voice was barely audible.
“Who was she?”
Matthew stared at the photograph on the ground.
For the first time since Elena met him, he looked lost.
Not powerful.
Not untouchable.
Just a man who had spent years burying something painful.
“My sister.”
The answer hit her harder than expected.
Elena shook her head.
“No.”
Matthew looked at her.
“Olivia was my older sister. She died fifteen years ago.”
“Then why is her picture with my name?”
He had no answer.
And that terrified her.
Behind them, Isabel stood silently.
Watching.
Waiting.
Because she knew exactly what she had done.
She had opened a door that could never be closed again.
Matthew slowly walked to the photograph and picked it up.
His fingers trembled slightly as he wiped the rain away.
“Where did you get this?”
Isabel smiled.
“There it is.”
Her voice became colder.
“The great Matthew Carranza finally has a question he cannot answer.”
Matthew turned.
“Where?”
Isabel shrugged.
“Your sister left more secrets than you ever knew.”
Elena looked between them.
“You knew about Olivia?”
Isabel looked at her.
“I knew everything.”
The words made Elena’s stomach turn.
“You knew who my father was.”
“Yes.”
“You knew Matthew’s sister.”
“Yes.”
“You knew I wasn’t alone.”
Isabel’s face remained emotionless.
“Yes.”
Each answer felt like another wound.
Elena stepped closer.
“Then why?”
For the first time, her voice became angry.
“Why did you let me believe nobody wanted me?”
Isabel didn’t answer.
And that silence said everything.
Because the truth was worse than any excuse.
She had done it for control.
For money.
For power.
Matthew looked at Elena.
“I need to tell you something.”
She looked at him.
“Tell me the truth this time.”
He nodded.
“You deserve that.”
The rain continued falling around them.
“My sister Olivia disappeared fifteen years ago.”
He looked down.
“Everyone believed she died in an accident.”
A pause.
“But I never believed that.”
Elena listened.
“My family searched for years. Then we found one thing.”
He held up the photograph.
“A record of a child.”
Elena’s heart stopped.
“A child?”
Matthew nodded.
“Olivia had a daughter.”
The world became quiet.
Elena whispered:
“No.”
Matthew’s eyes met hers.
“Yes.”
The realization slowly entered her mind.
Like a storm.
“No…”
She stepped backward.
“That’s not possible.”
“Your mother was Olivia.”
The words destroyed the last piece of certainty she had.
Elena shook her head.
“I remember my mother.”
“You remember what Isabel wanted you to remember.”
Matthew’s voice was gentle.
“Your memories were manipulated. You were moved. Hidden. Given another identity.”
Elena looked at Isabel.
“You stole me.”
Isabel’s expression finally cracked.
A flash of anger.
“I saved you.”
“No.”
Elena’s voice became stronger.
“You erased me.”
Isabel stared at her.
“You were a child. You didn’t understand.”
“I understood enough.”
Tears ran down Elena’s face.
“You made me spend my entire life thanking you for taking everything from me.”
For the first time, Isabel looked uncertain.
Because Elena was no longer the frightened girl who ran from the mansion.
She was someone who knew the truth.
Then one of Matthew’s security men approached.
“Mr. Carranza.”
Matthew turned.
“We found something.”
The man handed him a small folder.
Matthew opened it.
His face changed.
“What is it?” Elena asked.
He didn’t answer.
She stepped closer.
Inside were old documents.
Birth records.
Hospital reports.
And one letter.
The handwriting was old.
But the name at the top made Elena freeze.
Olivia.
Matthew opened it carefully.
The paper was fragile.
The first line read:
"If you are reading this, it means Isabel failed to keep Elena hidden forever."
Elena covered her mouth.
The letter continued.
"Matthew, if anything happens to me, protect my daughter. She is the last piece of me left in this world."
Matthew’s eyes filled.
Because the sister he thought he lost had written to him.
She had trusted him.
And he never knew.
The final sentence was the one that changed everything:
"The man who caused my death was not a stranger. He was someone inside our family."
Everyone froze.
Even Isabel.
Matthew slowly looked up.
“Who?”
No one spoke.
Then the security team’s phone rang.
The man answered.
His face immediately changed.
“Sir…”
Matthew turned.
“What?”
The man swallowed.
“We found the original investigation file.”
A pause.
“The person who ordered Olivia’s disappearance…”
He looked at Elena.
Then at Isabel.
“It wasn’t Isabel.”
Elena felt the ground disappear.
“Then who was it?”
The man hesitated.
And finally said:
“It was Daniel Vargas.”
Elena went completely still.
Her father.
The man she had just learned was innocent.
The man everyone said died a hero.
Matthew looked shocked.
Because the entire truth had just shifted again.
And somewhere in the darkness…
someone had spent fifteen years making everyone believe the wrong story.
Elena looked at Matthew.
“What does this mean?”
Matthew looked toward the road disappearing into the storm.
His voice was quiet.
“It means the person who destroyed your family…”
“May still be alive.”
And for the first time that night…
Elena realized escaping Isabel was only the beginning.
Because the real enemy had never been chasing her.
May you like
They had been watching her.
Waiting for her to discover the truth.
