PART 1: THE MUSIC BOX THAT WOKE HER UP

The hospital room had been silent for weeks.

Not peaceful silence.

The kind of silence that comes when everyone has already accepted that nothing will change.

Machines beeped softly beside the bed.

A heart monitor flashed steady green lines.

The elderly woman lying beneath the white sheets had not opened her eyes in twenty-three days.

Her name was Eleanor Whitmore.

A woman once known for her sharp mind, powerful presence, and unforgettable voice.

But now, she looked fragile.

Small.

Almost like the world had forgotten her.

Her son, Alexander, stood beside her bed every day.

A successful businessman.

A man who controlled companies, negotiations, and millions of dollars.

But there was one thing he could not control.

His mother’s silence.

Doctors had prepared him.

“She may never wake up.”

Those words haunted him every night.

Until that afternoon.

The hospital room door slowly opened.

Everyone turned.

A thin young boy stood there.

Maybe ten years old.

His clothes were old.

His shoes were worn.

His hair was messy from the rain outside.

And against his chest, he held something carefully.

An old wooden music box.

The nurses exchanged confused looks.

One of them stepped forward.

“Excuse me, sweetheart. Are you lost?”

The boy shook his head.

His eyes stayed fixed on Eleanor.

“I came to see her.”

The room went still.

Alexander frowned.

“Her?”

The boy nodded.

“Mrs. Whitmore.”

Alexander immediately stepped forward.

“Who are you?”

The boy didn’t answer.

He only walked closer.

That was when Alexander noticed something.

The boy wasn’t carrying a toy.

He was holding the music box like it was the most important thing in the world.

“Stop.”

Alexander’s voice became cold.

The boy froze.

“Get away from my mother.”

Everyone looked at him.

The boy’s face fell.

“But…”

“No one comes in here without permission,” Alexander said.

His eyes narrowed.

“Who let you inside?”

The boy lowered his head.

His fingers tightened around the music box.

Then he whispered:

“She told me I could come.”

Alexander stared.

“My mother has never met you.”

The boy looked up.

His eyes were full of sadness.

Then he softly said:

May you like

“She promised she would never forget me.”

The entire room became silent.
