Chapter 7 - The Bloodline of Buffalo

The threat from Buffalo materialized sooner than anyone expected.
The syndicate operating out of Western New York was led by Salvatore "The Hammer" Moretti—a ruthless mob boss who had been trying to expand his illegal gambling and extortion networks into Upstate New York for a decade. Dominic had consistently blocked Moretti’s advances, using legal land acquisitions and financial blockades to starve Moretti’s operations.
Capturing Emily Harper had been Moretti’s desperate move to force Dominic into a corner.
By Friday afternoon, Black Pine Springs was on high alert.
Dominic sat at the head of the conference table in the estate's subterranean command center. Surrounded by Caleb and six senior lieutenants, he examined a map of the valley.
"Moretti has moved thirty armed men into a hunting lodge six miles north of the estate," Caleb reported, pointing to a red marker on the digital map. "He knows we intercepted his team in Albany. He knows the girl is here."
"Does he know we know his location?" Dominic asked coldly.
"No, sir," Caleb replied. "He thinks we're in defensive mode, fortifying the gates."
Dominic stood up, buttoning his dark suit jacket. "Moretti made a fatal mistake. He thought he could bring his filth into my home. We strike tonight at dusk."
"Dominic, wait."
The voice came from the open doorway.
Emily stood there, dressed in a dark green sweater and jeans. Her face was pale, but her eyes held a steady, unyielding determination.
Dominic turned, his face softening instantly. "Emily, you shouldn't be down here."
"I heard what you said," she said, walking into the room, ignoring the staring security lieutenants. "You're going to attack them."
"I am going to eliminate a threat to my family," Dominic said firmly. "And to you."
"Is there another way?" she asked, stopping beside his chair. "If you attack them, people will die. You could be hurt."
Dominic looked down at her, touched by the genuine concern in her voice. He reached out, his long fingers gently brushing a strand of auburn hair behind her ear.
"In my world, Emily, peace is not negotiated," Dominic murmured softly, his voice meant only for her. "Peace is enforced. If I do not crush Moretti tonight, he will spend the next five years hunting you and your brother. I will not allow that shadow to hang over your life."
Emily looked into his eyes, understanding the brutal logic of his world. He wasn't a violent man by choice; he was a protector by necessity.
"Promise me you'll come back," she whispered, her hand rising to gently touch his cheek.
May you like
Dominic leaned into her touch, his eyes closing for a brief second as he felt the warmth of her palm against his skin.
"I promise," Dominic said quietly.
