Chapter 5 - THE MAFIA QUEEN

Three months later.
The Starks estate had never seen a sunnier, more beautiful morning.
The dark clouds of war that had hung over the city for years had completely vanished. The Moretti syndicate had been entirely dismantled—their assets seized, their corrupt leaders imprisoned, and their remaining operations absorbed seamlessly into the Starks enterprise under Veronica’s brilliant, strategic guidance.
On the grand manicured lawns of the estate, a massive white silk marquee had been erected overlooking the shimmering blue waters of the bay.
Dozens of high-society guests, international dignitaries, syndicate leaders, and former medical colleagues of Veronica were gathered in rows of white mahogany chairs, surrounded by thousands of blooming white roses.
Inside the master suite upstairs, Veronica stood before a floor-to-ceiling mirror.
She was wearing a breathtaking, custom-designed white lace wedding gown with a dramatic cathedral train, embellished with hand-sewn pearls that caught the morning light. Her dark hair was styled in an intricate updo crowned with an antique diamond tiara—a historical Starks family heirloom that had once belonged to Rory's grandmother.
A soft knock sounded at the door.
The door opened, and little Lily and Rose came skipping into the room, wearing adorable matching pink flower-girl dresses, carrying small baskets filled with white rose petals.
"Miss Veronica! You look like a real princess!" Rose squealed, running over and carefully hugging the satin skirt of her gown.
"You're not Miss Veronica anymore, silly!" Lily giggled, poking her sister playfully. "Daddy said today she becomes our Mommy forever!"
Veronica dropped down gracefully, ignoring the heavy silk of her dress, and pulled both little girls into her arms, kissing their cheeks softly. "I will always be your Mommy, sweethearts. No matter what."
"Are you ready?" a deep, gravelly voice called from the doorway.
Veronica looked up.
Rory Starks was standing in the open entrance, looking impossibly handsome in an immaculate black velvet tuxedo. The lethal mafia king who had once terrified an entire city was looking at her with an expression of pure, unadulterated, helpless love.
Lily and Rose giggled, grabbing their petal baskets. "We're going to go wait at the altar with Uncle Viktor!" they cheered, running out of the room past their father.
When the children were gone, Rory stepped into the suite, closing the heavy oak door behind him.
He walked over to Veronica, stopping inches away, his dark gray eyes sweeping over her radiant, breathtaking beauty.
"You are the most beautiful sight I have ever seen in my entire life," Rory whispered, his voice trembling slightly with genuine emotion.
"You don't look too bad yourself, Mr. Starks," Veronica teased softly, reaching up to adjust the crisp black bow tie at his collar.
Rory reached into his inner tuxedo pocket and pulled out a small, velvet-lined box. He opened it, revealing a magnificent platinum wedding band encrusted with rare, flawless pink diamonds.
"Three months ago, you walked into this house as an invisible maid," Rory murmured, taking her soft hand in his, running his thumb over her smooth knuckles. "You were hiding in the shadows, fighting a silent war all by yourself. You brought light back into my children's lives. You gave me a reason to live again."
Veronica looked into his eyes, her heart swelling with overwhelming warmth and absolute certainty.
"I wasn't hiding, Rory," Veronica whispered back, smiling radiantly. "I was just waiting to find the man who was brave enough to stand beside me."
Rory pulled her close, his arms wrapping tightly around her waist, his lips pressing deeply, passionately against hers in a promise that would last a lifetime.

Outside, the grand orchestral music began to play across the sunlit gardens.
Hand in hand, the mafia king and his brilliant queen walked out of the suite, ready to step before the city, before their family, and before the world—no longer invisible, no longer afraid, but bound together forever in an empire built on love, strength, and absolute devotion.
