Chapter 10 - The Unshakable Kingdom

One year later.

The penthouse balcony offered a panoramic view of the city, glowing bright with millions of amber lights under a clear, starlit sky.

Elena leaned against the glass railing, wearing a soft silk robe, a glass of dark wine resting in her hand. Below, the city moved in its endless rhythm, oblivious to the quiet sanctuary high above the clouds.

From inside the living room came the sound of soft laughter. Elena turned to look through the open glass doors.

Alessandro was sitting on the thick Persian rug, his bespoke suit jacket discarded on the sofa. On his lap sat eighteen-month-old Mia, who was wearing a pair of dark velvet pajamas. Alessandro was carefully building a tall tower of wooden blocks for her, letting out a deep laugh whenever she gleefully knocked it over with her small hands.

The ruthless sovereign who commanded thousands of men and held the city’s economy in his fist was currently being outmaneuvered by a toddler with a penchant for chaos.

Elena walked inside, setting her glass down, and sat beside them on the rug.

Mia immediately crawled over, pulling herself up using Elena’s knee, giggling as she pressed her soft face against her mother’s dress. Alessandro reached out, wrapping one broad arm around Elena’s waist, pulling both of them close against his side.

“She looks more like you every day,” Alessandro murmured, leaning down to kiss the side of Elena’s neck.

“She has your stubbornness,” Elena countered, smiling as she rested her head against his broad shoulder. “Marco told me she refused to eat her vegetables until he brought them to her on a silver tray.”

Alessandro chuckled softly, his hand coming to rest over Elena’s left hand, his fingers stroking the heavy sapphire ring that had started their journey.

“The council met today,” Alessandro mentioned quietly, his voice relaxed. “We formally established the Duca Children’s Trust. Half of the revenue from the northern shipping lines will go directly into funding orphanages and safe houses across the state.”

Elena turned her head, looking into his slate-gray eyes. “You did that for us?”

“I did it because my wife reminded me that true power is used to build, not just to destroy,” he replied softly.

He leaned in, pressing his lips gently against hers—a slow, tender kiss that carried the deep, unwavering warmth of a love forged in shadows and sealed in gold.

Outside, the city continued its restless sleep, guarded by the soldiers who swore allegiance to the sovereign. But inside the penthouse high above the noise, there were no mafia lords, no debts, and no ghosts of the past.

There was only a family, safe and unshakable within their fortress of stone and sapphire.
