Chapter 4 - The Rain-Slicked Chase

A heavy autumn downpour washed over Atlantic City, blurring the bright neon lights along the famous Boardwalk.
Luca’s convoy of black SUVs moved swiftly through the dark, trying to escort Claire to a private airfield on the edge of the county. However, the information had been leaked. As they neared the old shipping yards, two unmarked vehicles swerved out of a side street, ramming Luca's lead SUV and pinning them against the brick wall of an abandoned warehouse.
Gunfire shattered the silence of the rainy night.
"Get down and stay in the car!" Luca roared, pulling a handgun from his jacket. He threw his door open, firing back to draw the attackers' attention toward him while his security team ushered Claire toward the safety of the warehouse.
Claire ran blindly through the dusty, shadowed aisles of the old facility, her breath hitching as heavy footsteps echoed behind her. Out of the darkness, Grant Mercer emerged, a gun gripped in his hand, his face twisted with desperate rage.
"Claire! Give me the drive!" he snarled. "Everything I built... I won't let a woman destroy it!"
"You destroyed yourself the moment you betrayed everyone who trusted you, Grant!" Claire cried, backing into a corner, her eyes searching frantically for an emergency exit.

Grant raised his weapon, but before he could pull the trigger, a loud crash echoed from the glass skylight above. Shards of glass rained down like ice. Luca Moretti dropped from the overhead catwalk, slamming into Grant with immense force.
The two men engaged in a brutal, hand-to-hand struggle on the wet concrete floor. With superior training, Luca quickly gained the upper hand, disarming Grant and pinning him down among the shattered glass.
