Chapter 2 - The Federal Storm

The sound of shattering wood boomed through the ballroom like thunder.
Dozens of high-society women screamed, dropping their glasses onto the marble floor. Men in tailored tuxedos ducked behind ice sculptures and silk-draped tables.
"FBI! NOBODY MOVE!"
A sea of tactical vests, combat boots, and drawn sidearms poured through the shattered doorway. Over twenty heavily armed federal agents, backed by armored tactical officers, flooded into the room with terrifying speed and precision. Laser sights danced across the walls, painting red dots over the crystal chandeliers, the oil paintings, and the hearts of the guests.
"GET ON THE GROUND! ALL OF YOU! HANDS WHERE WE CAN SEE THEM!"
The head of the unit—a tall, sharp-eyed woman with a silver badge pinned to her tactical belt and a face made of steel—marched straight through the center of the panicked ballroom.
Agent Sarah Vance.
Charles Calloway’s face went white, his billionaire composure vanishing in an instant. He stepped forward, his voice trembling with a mixture of rage and panic.
"What is the meaning of this?!" Charles roared, attempting to assert his authority. "Do you have any idea who I am?! I am Charles Calloway! I sit on the board of state governors! I demand to see a warrant immediately!"
Agent Vance didn't even slow down. She reached into her dark jacket, pulled out a thick, red-stamped federal document, and slapped it hard against Charles's chest.
"Charles Calloway, Ryan Calloway, and Eleanor Calloway," Agent Vance's voice echoed through the high-ceilinged room like a death knell. "You are under arrest for federal racketeering, wire fraud, grand embezzlement, money laundering for international cartels, and corporate espionage."
"This is insane!" Eleanor shrieked, backing away as two female agents stepped up behind her with heavy steel handcuffs. "You can't arrest us! We are the Calloways! Call our attorneys! Call the Mayor!"
"Your attorneys are currently being arrested at their law firm in Midtown, Mrs. Calloway," Agent Vance replied coldly. "And the Mayor signed off on these warrants three hours ago."
Ryan stood frozen, his eyes wide with absolute horror as two tactical officers slammed him face-first onto a nearby velvet couch, pulling his hands behind his back.
"Get your hands off me!" Ryan screamed, his polished composure dissolving into pathetic shrieks. "I didn't do anything! It was my father! It was the accounting department!"
"Save it for the grand jury, Ryan," Agent Vance said.
Then, Agent Vance’s sharp eyes scanned the chaotic room until they landed on the floor near the ruined cupcake tower.
Her expression changed instantly from ruthless federal prosecutor to deep, professional concern.
"Vanessa!" Agent Vance called out, dropping to one knee beside me on the blood-stained marble. "Medical team, get in here now! We have a pregnant female down!"
Two federal paramedics carrying heavy trauma bags rushed through the crowd, dropping to their knees on either side of me.
Ryan, held down by an officer's boot on his back, snapped his head toward us. His jaw dropped as he watched Agent Vance gently hold my hand, checking my pulse with familiar ease.
"Vanessa...?" Ryan stammered, his voice squeaking. "Why... why is she talking to you? Agent, what is going on?!"
Agent Vance looked up at Ryan, her eyes burning with pure, unadulterated contempt.
"You called her worthless, didn't you, Ryan?" Agent Vance asked quietly. "You thought she was just a quiet little accountant you could abuse, step on, and replace with a twenty-two-year-old."

"I... I don't understand..." Ryan gasped.
"For the past fourteen months," Agent Vance said, her voice carrying across the silent ballroom so every single guest could hear, "your wife has been working as a confidential informant for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Every paper you signed, every offshore transfer your father authorized, every illegal asset you hid in the Cayman Islands—Vanessa audited it, decrypted it, and delivered it directly to my desk."
