Part 2: The Secret Behind Lucas’s Disappearance

The police station was colder than Maria remembered.

Maybe because she had spent the last two years imagining this moment.

A moment where someone finally believed her.

Where someone finally said:

"You were right."

But now that Lucas was asleep in her arms, wrapped in the thin blanket an officer had given him, Maria couldn't stop shaking.

Because finding her son was only the beginning.

Across the room, Alexander Vale sat in silence.

For the first time anyone had ever seen him...

He looked powerless.

His expensive suit.

His luxury watch.

His confidence.

None of it mattered inside an interrogation room.

Because money couldn't explain why his adoption documents were fake.

Detective Daniel Harris placed a folder on the table.

"Mr. Vale."

Alexander looked up.

"You claimed you adopted this child legally."

"Yes."

"We checked."

"You didn't."

Alexander's jaw tightened.

"I don't know what happened with the paperwork."

Detective Harris leaned back.

"You spent millions building companies."

"You signed hundreds of contracts."

"And you want us to believe you didn't notice an adoption agency didn't exist?"

Silence.

In the waiting area, Maria watched through the glass.

She saw him.

The man who had pushed her to the ground.

The man who called her crazy.

The man who looked at her like she was nothing.

Now he couldn't even meet her eyes.

Then Victoria entered the room.

Her perfect appearance was gone.

No elegant smile.

No calm expression.

Only fear.

"Alexander."

He looked at her.

"What did you tell them?"

Victoria sat down.

"I told them the truth."

His face changed.

"What truth?"

The detective entered.

"You might want to hear this."

Victoria took a deep breath.

Then she looked at Maria through the glass.

"I didn't know where Lucas came from."

Maria's eyes narrowed.

"What?"

Victoria lowered her voice.

"Alexander told me the child was from a private adoption."

"That everything was arranged."

"I believed him."

Maria shook her head.

"No."

"Someone knew."

"Someone planned this."

Victoria nodded slowly.

"Yes."

"There was someone else."

Detective Harris opened another file.

"We found something interesting."

He turned the laptop around.

A bank transfer.

Two years ago.

The day before Lucas disappeared.

A payment.

$75,000.

Sent from Alexander's company account.

To a woman named...

Elena Torres.

Maria froze.

Her blood ran cold.

Elena.

Her sister.

The same woman who had hugged her when Lucas vanished.

The same woman who told her:

"Don't give up. We'll find him."

"No..."

Maria whispered.

"She knew."

Detective Harris nodded.

"We believe she did."

The officers brought Elena in later that afternoon.

She looked nothing like the woman Maria remembered.

Her eyes were tired.

Her face was pale.

She didn't even try to deny it.

When she saw Maria holding Lucas...

She started crying.

"Why?"

Maria asked.

Her voice was quiet.

Almost worse than screaming.

"Why did you take him from me?"

Elena looked down.

"I didn't want to."

Maria laughed bitterly.

"You didn't want to?"

"You held my hand while I searched hospitals."

"You told me to keep hoping."

"You watched me fall apart."

Elena cried harder.

"I was trying to protect you."

Maria stared at her.

"Protect me from what?"

Elena looked toward Alexander.

Then answered:

"From Lucas's father."

The room went silent.

Everyone turned toward Alexander.

He stood immediately.

"Don't listen to her."

Detective Harris stopped him.

"Sit down."

Elena continued.

"Maria..."

"Lucas wasn't supposed to disappear."

"He wasn't supposed to be taken."

She swallowed.

"But when Alexander found out..."

"He panicked."

Maria felt her heart pounding.

"Found out what?"

Elena closed her eyes.

"The DNA test."

Two years earlier.

Before Lucas vanished.

Alexander had discovered something.

A secret.

Something that could destroy his entire life.

Because Lucas wasn't just a child.

He was proof.

"What DNA test?"

Maria asked.

Elena whispered:

"Lucas wasn't Alexander's son."

Everyone froze.

Detective Harris frowned.

"Explain."

Elena looked at Maria.

"Before Lucas was born..."

"Alexander suspected Maria was hiding something."

"He secretly ordered a DNA test."

"But the result wasn't what he expected."

The detective opened another document.

A private laboratory report.

The father of Lucas:

Unknown.

Not Alexander Vale.

Maria shook her head.

"That's impossible."

Elena looked at her sadly.

"No."

"It's true."

The room became unbearable.

Because for two years Maria believed the worst thing that happened to her was losing her child.

But now she discovered something even more painful.

The man who claimed to be Lucas's father...

Had never been his father at all.

Alexander finally spoke.

His voice was cold.

"Enough."

Everyone looked at him.

He stood slowly.

"You don't understand."

Maria stared.

"Understand what?"

His eyes turned toward Lucas.

"I wasn't trying to steal your son."

"I was trying to hide him."

Detective Harris narrowed his eyes.

"From who?"

Alexander didn't answer.

Then his phone rang.

Everyone froze.

An unknown number.

The detective motioned for him to answer on speaker.

Alexander hesitated.

Then pressed the button.

A man's voice came through.

Calm.

Controlled.

Dangerous.

"You should have left the child where he was."

Alexander's face went pale.

The voice continued:

"Now everyone knows."

A pause.

Then:

"And Maria will learn why Lucas was taken."

The call ended.

Detective Harris immediately began tracing the number.

Maria held Lucas closer.

Because she finally understood something terrifying.

Alexander wasn't the biggest secret.

The fake adoption wasn't the real crime.

Someone else was behind everything.

Someone who had been watching from the beginning.

May you like

And they knew something about Lucas's birth...

That could change all their lives forever.
