PART 15 The Last Game

The coordinates led us to an abandoned industrial area on the edge of the city.

A place forgotten by everyone.

Old warehouses.

Broken windows.

Rust-covered gates.

A place where secrets could disappear.

The kind of place where people thought nobody would look.

The car stopped in front of the largest building.

Nobody spoke.

Not me.

Not Nathan.

Not my grandfather.

Because we all knew.

The person waiting inside was not just another enemy.

He was the beginning.

Adrian Vale.

The man who had spent decades manipulating families, destroying companies, and turning people against each other.

Nathan looked at me.

“Stay behind me.”

I almost smiled.

A year ago, I would have.

But I wasn’t the same woman anymore.

“No.”

He looked surprised.

“I’m done standing behind people.”

A small silence.

Then Nathan nodded.

“Okay.”

That simple answer meant more than any promise.

He finally understood.

We entered together.

The warehouse was dark.

Only one light was hanging from the ceiling.

Swinging slightly.

And beneath it…

A table.

Three chairs.

A laptop.

Like someone had prepared a meeting.

A voice came from the speakers.

“Emily.”

I stopped.

Adrian.

“Welcome.”

Nathan looked around.

“Show yourself.”

A laugh echoed.

“Still impatient, Nathan.”

The lights turned on one by one.

Slowly.

At the end of the warehouse, a door opened.

A man walked out.

Older than the photo.

Gray hair.

Tired eyes.

But the same cold confidence.

Adrian Vale.

Nathan stared.

For a moment, he looked like a child seeing a ghost.

“You’re alive.”

Adrian smiled.

“Yes.”

Nathan’s fists tightened.

“Why?”

A simple question.

But it carried years of pain.

Why fake your death?

Why destroy everyone?

Why abandon your own son?

Adrian looked at him.

“Because weakness gets people killed.”

Nathan laughed bitterly.

“You call abandoning your son strength?”

Adrian’s face hardened.

“You were always emotional.”

“And you were always a monster.”

The words hung in the air.

Adrian looked at me.

“Interesting.”

“After everything, you chose him.”

I stepped forward.

“I chose myself.”

For the first time…

Adrian looked surprised.

“Your grandfather underestimated you.”

I shook my head.

“No.”

“He underestimated himself.”

The corner of Adrian’s mouth moved.

Almost a smile.

“You have your mother’s courage.”

My chest tightened.

“Don’t say her name.”

His expression changed.

Because he knew.

That was the wound.

The one thing I never healed.

“You want the truth about your mother?”

I froze.

Nathan looked at me.

Adrian continued.

“Then listen carefully.”

He walked toward the table.

“Your mother discovered everything.”

“The stolen money.”

“The fake companies.”

“The hidden accounts.”

“She planned to expose me.”

My hands curled.

“And my father killed her.”

Adrian shook his head.

“No.”

Again.

That word.

“No.”

“Your father caused the accident.”

“But he didn’t order it.”

I frowned.

“Then who did?”

Adrian looked at my grandfather.

Silence.

My grandfather’s face changed.

And I understood.

“No.”

My voice barely worked.

Adrian smiled.

“Now you see.”

I turned.

Looking at the man who raised me.

My grandfather looked broken.

“Emily…”

“Tell me.”

My voice shook.

“Tell me he’s lying.”

My grandfather couldn’t answer.

That was the answer.

My world collapsed again.

“No.”

I stepped back.

My mother.

My whole life.

Everything.

A lie.

Nathan reached for me.

But I pulled away.

Not from him.

From everyone.

“I’m tired.”

My voice broke.

“I’m so tired of people deciding what I can handle.”

Nobody spoke.

Then Adrian said:

“That is why you were always dangerous.”

I looked at him.

“What?”

“You weren’t controllable.”

He smiled.

“Your mother wasn’t either.”

The comparison hurt.

But it also gave me strength.

Because my mother fought.

And I would too.

I looked at the laptop on the table.

“Why bring me here?”

Adrian answered:

“Because I wanted to see if you were like them.”

“Like who?”

“Your family.”

“Power hungry.”

“Obsessed with revenge.”

He stepped closer.

“Or if you were different.”

I stared.

“And?”

He looked at me.

“You are.”

That surprised me.

Even Nathan looked confused.

Adrian sighed.

“Everything I did was to destroy the people who destroyed me.”

“But I lost myself.”

For a second…

he looked human.

Then the doors opened.

Police officers entered.

Everyone turned.

Adrian looked shocked.

Nathan looked at me.

And I held up my phone.

“You made one mistake.”

Adrian stared.

“You talked too much.”

I had recorded everything.

Every confession.

Every name.

Every crime.

The police surrounded him.

But Adrian didn’t fight.

He only looked at me.

“You really are your mother’s daughter.”

I watched as they placed handcuffs around his wrists.

And for the first time in years…

The truth was no longer hidden.

Three months later.

The investigations revealed everything.

The companies.

The fraud.

The murders.

The lies.

My father’s crimes were exposed.

Adrian’s empire collapsed.

My grandfather testified.

And Nathan…

Nathan rebuilt his life.

Not as the man who lied to me.

But as the man who finally told the truth.

One evening, we sat on the same rooftop where he once proposed.

The city lights were still beautiful.

But I was different.

He looked at me.

“I don’t expect you to forgive me.”

I smiled slightly.

“Good.”

He laughed softly.

“I deserved that.”

A quiet moment passed.

Then he asked:

“Do you ever think about what would have happened if we never found the truth?”

I looked at the city.

“Yes.”

“And?”

I took a breath.

“Sometimes the truth destroys your life.”

I looked at him.

“But sometimes…”

“It gives you a chance to finally live.”

Nathan reached for my hand.

This time…

I let him.

Not because I needed him.

Because I chose him.

And that was the difference.

The end of the lies.

May you like

The beginning of something real.

THE END
