Chapter 10 - The Garden of Peace

Six months later, spring had arrived in Oyster Bay. The estate gardens were in full bloom, filled with vibrant pink cherry blossoms, fresh green lawns, and the sweet smell of salt water blowing off the Long Island Sound.

Meline sat on a wrought-iron bench near the newly restored greenhouse, wearing a sun dress, a light breeze tossing her dark hair. Beside her on the grass, little Bianca and Sophia were playing with their puppies, their bright, ringing laughter filling the warm afternoon air.

A short distance away, Luca and Matteo were playing catch with Dominic, their father's laughter echoing across the lawn—a sound that had been entirely absent from the estate for over two years.

Matteo threw a long pass that Luca caught gracefully, throwing his hands up in victory. "Look, Meline! Did you see that catch?!" Luca shouted across the lawn, his face lit with a bright, unburdened smile.

"I saw it, Luca! Flawless!" Meline called back, waving at him with a proud smile.

Dominic handed the football to Matteo and walked slowly over to the iron bench where Meline was sitting. He sat down beside her, wrapping his arm comfortably around her waist, pulling her close against his side.

"You look peaceful," Dominic murmured softly, pressing a gentle kiss against her temple.

"I am peaceful," Meline replied, resting her head against his broad shoulder, watching the children play in the sunlight. "Six months ago, I thought my life was over. I thought I was broken beyond repair."

"You were never broken, my love," Dominic said, his voice deep and heavy with quiet emotion. "You were just waiting for the family that truly deserved you."

He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a small velvet box, placing it gently into her palm.

Meline opened it to reveal a stunning antique ring—a massive flawless sapphire surrounded by four small diamonds, symbolizing the four children she had claimed as her own.

"It belonged to my grandmother," Dominic explained, looking into her eyes. "She always said that a true family isn't built merely by blood, but by the love that fights to keep it together. Thank you for saving us, Meline."

Meline slipped the ring onto her finger, looking at the four diamonds glittering in the spring sunlight. She looked out at the children running across the green grass, then up at the man who had given her a home, a purpose, and an unbreakable empire of love.

"We saved each other, Dominic," Meline whispered gently, leaning up to press her lips to his, contextually complete at last—the discarded bride who had become the heart of the kingdom.
