Chapter 9 - The Coronation

In the weeks following the failed attack on the estate, the New York Cosa Nostra underwent a monumental transformation. The threat posed by Vincenzo and Arban Hoxha was entirely eradicated, their former territories absorbed into the Romano empire without further contest.

Dominic made an unprecedented decision: he summoned all six family captains, the high council of the eastern seaboard, and the regional capos to the grand ballroom of his Oyster Bay estate for a formal announcement.

The ballroom was magnificent, lit by crystal chandeliers and filled with the most powerful, dangerous men in the city. At the front of the room, on an elevated marble platform, stood Dominic Romano, wearing a sharp dark tux.

Beside him stood Meline, radiant in a tailored emerald-green silk gown that highlighted her dark hair and pale skin. Her posture was regal, commanding absolute respect from every man in the room. Standing closely around her were the four children—Luca, Matteo, Sophia, and Bianca—dressed in fine formal attire, holding Meline's hands without hesitation.

Dominic stepped up to the brass microphone, his presence silencing the entire room instantly.

"Many of you knew Frank Rossi," Dominic began, his voice echoing powerfully through the grand space. "He was a fool who viewed his own daughter as worthless merchandise because she could not provide him with an heir. He tried to trade her away to settle his debts."

Dominic looked down at Meline, his eyes shining with profound pride and love.

"Frank Rossi saw emptiness," Dominic declared, his voice rising with absolute authority. "I saw perfection. Meline Rossi came into my broken house and did what no army, no money, and no power on earth could ever accomplish: she saved my children. She bled for my blood. She defended my home with a gun in her hand when my enemies stood at the door."

He took Meline's hand, raising it high for the entire syndicate council to see.

"Effective tonight, Meline is not merely my wife. She is the undisputed Queen of the Romano Family. Her word carries my authority. Her commands carry my force. Any disrespect shown to her, any threat made toward her, will be met with the full, violent might of my entire empire."

The room erupted into applause. Old Man Vane, the senior capo from South Boston, stepped forward first, raising his glass of champagne. "To the Queen of New York!"

"To the Queen!" the entire room roared in unison.

Meline looked out over the crowd of powerful men bowing their heads to her, then looked down at the four children clinging to her dress. The deep, agonizing pain of her past—the sterile clinic, her father's cruel words, her mother's cold rejection—dissolved completely, replaced by a profound sense of identity and purpose.

She was no longer the discarded, barren daughter of a Brooklyn capo. She was the protected, adored mother of four beautiful heirs, and the fierce queen of the most powerful boss in the country.
