Chapter 5 - Quinn’s Fall

The air in the conference room seemed to vaporize.
Quinn’s breath came in fast, shallow gasps. Her eyes darted from Sebastian’s thunderous, disbelieving face to the cold, analytical eyes of the state auditors sitting across the table.
“That’s... that’s a lie!” Quinn stammered, her voice screeching in desperation. “He authorized every single transfer! He told me to set up Apex Holdings! He signed the authorization documents himself!”
“I signed the documents for the land acquisition!” Sebastian roared, standing up so fast his chair slammed against the floor behind him. “I never authorized a private bankruptcy filing! I never authorized a personal penthouse in your name, you treacherous bitch!”
“Order!” Marcus called out, slamming his pen onto the table. “Maintain order in this room!”
I didn't raise my voice. I simply pulled out the next set of documents from my brief bag—a series of verified bank logs and IP tracking reports stamped by an independent cybersecurity firm.
“Mr. Chairman,” I said to Marcus, “Exhibit 4 includes the cryptographic digital signatures for the $800,000 transfer executed last Tuesday at 2:14 AM. The transfer was made from a IP address registered to Quinn Miller’s personal residence, using her private secondary access token.”
I looked at Quinn. “And Exhibit 5 is a transcript of an audio recording taken from a nursery monitor inside my home two nights ago, wherein Ms. Miller explicitly details her plan to change the security codes on my home, isolate me from financial resources, and assume control of company assets before the fraud could be detected by the board.”
Quinn shrank back into her seat as if she had been physically struck.
Sebastian stared at her, the realization of his own utter foolishness washing over him in waves. He had ruined his marriage, betrayed his infant son, put his freedom on the line, and destroyed his life’s work—all for a woman who was actively setting him up to take the entire criminal fall while she fled to the Caribbean with his money.
“You...” Sebastian whispered, his voice trembling with a terrifying blend of rage and humiliation. “You were using me from the very beginning.”
“Sebastian, please—” Quinn sobbed, reaching out to touch his arm.
He threw her hand off with such force her diamond bracelet slammed against the mahogany edge of the table, cracking one of the delicate gold links.
Before anyone else could speak, the double glass doors of the conference room swung open.
Two uniformed officers from the Financial Crimes Division of the State Police stepped into the room, accompanied by an investigator from the District Attorney’s office.
“Sebastian Bellandi? Quinn Miller?” the lead detective asked, pulling a pair of arrest warrants from his coat pocket.
Quinn gasped, bursting into hysterics as she covered her face with her hands.
“We have warrants for your arrest for grand larceny, wire fraud, and conspiracy to commit corporate embezzlement,” the detective announced calmly. “Please step away from the table and keep your hands visible.”
Sebastian stood frozen, his eyes fixed on me as the officers walked around the table. As the cold steel cuffs clicked around his wrists, he looked at me not with anger, but with a hollow, desperate plea.
“Wendy...” he whispered, his voice cracking as the reality of his prison sentence stared him in the face. “What about Cameron? Please... don't do this to our family.”

I looked down at our son sleeping peacefully against my chest, protected from the cold, cruel storm his father had built.
“You destroyed this family the moment you put a price tag on our son’s future, Sebastian,” I said softly, my voice firm as rock. “I’m just clearing away the wreckage.”
