Three days later, Victoria arrived at the Reed mansion.
She expected apologies.

The security footage appeared.

She became pale.
“This proves nothing.”
Marcus walked forward.
“The police disagree.”
Victoria finally understood.
She wasn’t in control anymore.

As officers entered, she looked at Alexander one last time.
“You’re choosing her over me?”
Alexander looked at her.
“No.”
His voice was quiet.
“I’m choosing the truth.”
Victoria was taken away.
Later that evening, Alexander returned to the hospital.
His mother was awake.
He sat beside her.
“I’m sorry, Mom.”
Evelyn smiled weakly.
“You finally saw.”
He held her hand.
“I almost lost you.”
She looked toward the window.

Alexander looked outside at the city lights.
