Chapter 9 - The Reckoning of the Commission

The Grand Ballroom of the Hermitage Hotel in downtown Nashville was bathed in shadows.
The Commission Meeting was held every five years, bringing together the leaders of all five major logistics and security syndicates operating across Tennessee and Kentucky. Sitting at the head of the massive mahogany table was Giancarlo DeLuca, surrounded by his lieutenants and his two sons.
Giancarlo smiled smugly as he adjusted his gold cufflinks. Tonight was the night. Adrian had failed to show up for the preliminary roll call, and news of Madeline’s hospitalization had already leaked to the commission members.
"Gentlemen," Giancarlo announced, raising his glass of scotch to the twelve senior bosses seated around the table. "As you know, my nephew, Adrian, has failed to fulfill the core requirement of our family charter. He has no heir, his wife is currently in the hospital under mysterious circumstances, and his leadership has brought instability to our borders. I move that we formally declare his branch of the family forfeit and transfer the Cumberland shipping rights to my sons."
Several senior members nodded in agreement, pulling out their vote tallies.
"A convincing argument, Uncle," a dark voice echoed from the back of the ballroom.
The heavy double doors swung open with a deafening bang.
Adrian DeLuca stepped into the room.
He looked majestic. Dressed in a flawless black tuxedo, his dark hair combed back, his posture radiating a terrifying, absolute power that made every man in the room instantly straighten up in his chair.
Beside him walked Marco, holding a heavy iron chain. And behind Marco, dragged by two armed security guards, was Dr. Richard Vance, trembling and sobbing.
Giancarlo’s smile vanished instantly. He slammed his glass onto the table. "Adrian! What is the meaning of this intrusion? This is a formal commission vote!"
"A vote built on a foundation of poison and lies," Adrian said smoothly, walking down the center aisle toward the table.
He stopped ten feet from his uncle, looking down at him with pure, icy contempt.
"Six years ago, Giancarlo paid Dr. Vance two million dollars to forge my medical records after I was shot in Chicago," Adrian announced, his voice echoing clearly off the high gilded ceilings. "He made the commission believe I was infertile so he could usurp my seat."
The room burst into shocked murmuring. The senior bosses turned to look at Giancarlo, their expressions darkening.
"Lies!" Giancarlo shrieked, standing up and pointing a shaking finger at Adrian. "He's desperate! He's bringing a senile old doctor in here to tell fairy tales because he knows he lost!"
"Is it a fairy tale, Dr. Vance?" Adrian asked quietly, not taking his eyes off his uncle.
Dr. Vance fell to his knees on the marble floor, weeping aloud. "It's true! God forgive me, it's true! Giancarlo paid me! He threatened my family if I didn't forge the records! Here are the bank receipts!" Vance threw a sheaf of wire-transfer documents onto the table.
The senior bosses immediately grabbed the papers, scanning the digital signatures and offshore bank account numbers matching Giancarlo’s personal trusts.
"You traitor!" Mateo screamed, reaching for the gun under his jacket.
Before Mateo could pull his weapon, Marco raised a silenced pistol and fired twice. Two quiet thwip-thwip sounds echoed through the room. Mateo collapsed onto the carpet, clutching his shattered shoulder, screaming in pain. Luca raised his hands instantly, backing away toward the wall.
Giancarlo turned white as paper, sinking back into his chair.
Adrian walked up to the head of the table, taking the glass of scotch from Giancarlo’s frozen hand.
"There is one more thing you should know, Uncle," Adrian whispered, leaning down so close his lips touched his uncle's ear. "My wife is currently pregnant with my son. The DeLuca bloodline is strong, pure, and entirely out of your reach."
The senior bosses stood up one by one, raising their right hands in a solemn sign of respect toward Adrian.
"The charter stands!" the eldest boss declared firmly. "Adrian DeLuca remains the sole leader of the syndicate. As for Giancarlo DeLuca... for the crime of treason against his own blood, his assets are stripped, and he is banished from Tennessee forever. If he sets foot in this state again, his life is forfeit."

Giancarlo looked around the table, seeing only cold, indifferent faces. He was ruined, stripped of his power, his money, and his family, all because he had underestimated the woman Adrian had brought into his house.
Adrian turned his back on his uncle, walking away from the table without looking back. "Get him out of my city," he ordered Marco quietly.
