Chapter 10 - The Great Hall

The Great Hall of the Northern Citadel was breathtaking and terrifying in equal measure.

Four hundred elite Lycan nobles, chieftains, and pack alphas filled the towering marble chamber, dressed in silks, furs, and heavy gold jewelry. At the far end of the hall sat the massive obsidian throne, draped in black pelts.

Standing beside the throne was Kyle Ravenmore.

He wore a dark ceremonial military tunic slashed with silver medals, his posture rigid, his face carved out of cold, unyielding stone. He looked every inch the ruthless sovereign, a king holding court over an empire. But anyone who looked closely could see the hollow, haunted look in his luminous golden eyes.

The double doors at the back of the hall swung open with a heavy boom.

“Presenting the noble candidates for the Royal Luna!” the royal herald announced loudly.

One by one, high-born ladies from the wealthiest packs stepped forward, curtsying before the throne, offering smiles designed to win the heart of the most powerful man in the world.

Kyle didn't even look at them. His jaw was clenched, his eyes fixed on the distant entrance, waiting for something—or someone—that he feared would never arrive.

Then, the crowd parted.

A lone figure walked down the center aisle.

She wore no silk. She wore no gold jewelry or glittering jewels. She simply wore a travel-worn tunic, sturdy leather boots, and an old, mended woolen shawl draped over her shoulders.

Whispers immediately rippled through the four hundred nobles. Gasps of shock and indignation echoed off the stone walls.

“Who is that?” “An Omega?” “What is a filthy outcast doing in the royal court? Guards, remove her!”

Meera ignored them all. She kept her chin held high, her gray eyes locked directly onto the obsidian throne at the end of the hall.

She walked past noble lords who recoiled in disgust. She walked past decorated warriors who sneered at her poverty.

She stopped thirty paces from the throne.

Silence descended over the Great Hall so heavy that you could hear the crackle of the torches on the walls.

Kyle’s breath hitched. He stood up slowly from his throne, his hands gripping the armrests so tightly that the polished stone began to fracture beneath his fingers.

Before the royal guards could step forward, before a single noble could shout an insult, the Alpha King of the Northern Range did something that sent an absolute shockwave of disbelief through the entire assembly.

Kyle Ravenmore stepped down from his throne.

He walked down the dais, crossing the polished marble floor until he stood directly in front of the rejected Omega from the edge of the woods.

And right in front of four hundred witnesses, the sovereign ruler of forty packs knelt down on one knee before her.

He didn't care about the gasps of the court. He didn't care about the laws of the caste system or the political alliances of the northern territories.

He looked up into her eyes, his golden gaze shining with an aching, desperate devotion.

“My throne means nothing without you,” Kyle whispered, his voice carrying clearly across the silent hall. “My crown is a cage. You are my mate, Meera. My only queen. Command me, and I will tear down this entire kingdom at your feet.”

Meera looked down at the most feared Lycan in the world kneeling in the dirt before her.

The silence in the hall was deafening.

Slowly, a small, knowing smile touched the corners of her lips. She reached out, adjusting the collar of his military tunic with steady fingers.

“Get up, Your Majesty,” Meera whispered softly. “You still have a kingdom to run. But this time... you’re going to do it right.”

A breathless, trembling smile broke across the King’s face. And as he stood up and pulled her into his arms before all of his people, the ghosts of the past finally burned away into ash, leaving nothing behind except a future they would build together.
