Chapter 9 - THE VOWS OF SHADOW AND LIGHT

Two months later.

The private chapel on the grounds of the Rossi estate was lit by hundreds of soft, warm candles, their golden flames reflecting off the polished dark oak pews and stained-glass windows depicting angels of justice and peace.

There were no high-society cameras, no corporate investors, and no fake smiles.

The small gathering consisted only of those who truly mattered: Leo, Dr. Harrison, Dominic, and twenty of Adrian’s most loyal men who had stood guard over the estate through the long winter months.

At the altar stood Adrian Rossi. He looked strikingly handsome in a bespoke black tuxedo, his gray eyes fixed entirely on the heavy oak doors at the back of the chapel.

The soft, magnificent chords of a pipe organ filled the sacred space.

The double doors opened slowly.

Amelia walked down the aisle alone. She did not need an uncle to give her away; she walked with her head held high, radiating absolute grace, beauty, and strength. She wore a simple, breathtaking gown of cream-colored silk that draped elegantly over her heavily pregnant belly, a veil of delicate lace trailing behind her.

Around her neck shimmered the platinum and diamond Rossi necklace—the symbol of the family that had rescued her from the dark and given her a true home.

When she reached the altar, Adrian took her hand. His fingers wrapped around hers, warm, strong, and protective.

The elderly priest smiled warmly at the couple, opening his leather book.

“We are gathered here today in the presence of God and these witnesses to join this man and this woman in holy matrimony,” the priest began, his voice echoing softly off the stone walls.

When the time came for the vows, Adrian looked directly into Amelia’s eyes, holding both of her small hands in his.

“Amelia,” Adrian spoke, his deep voice trembling slightly with raw, powerful emotion. “I took you from a world of fear, pain, and deceit. But on the night I brought you into my home, it was you who saved me. You showed me that even in the darkest shadows of this world, true purity, courage, and hope still exist.”

Tears of pure happiness glistened in Amelia’s eyes as she listened to his words.

“I swear on my life, my blood, and my soul,” Adrian continued, his gray eyes blazing with absolute devotion, “that I will protect you and our child with every breath I take. I will be your shield against the storm, your refuge in the dark, and your husband for all eternity.”

Amelia smiled, her voice steady and filled with deep love as she spoke her vows.

“Adrian,” she whispered, leaning closer to him. “You gave me back my voice when I was silent. You gave me back my strength when I was broken. You showed me that love is not a cage, but a fortress. I give you my heart, my life, and my eternal devotion.”

“By the power vested in me,” the priest declared, raising his hands in blessing, “I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride.”

Adrian did not hesitate. He pulled Amelia into his arms, lifting her slightly off her feet, and kissed her with a deep, consuming passion that sealed their souls together forever.

The small chapel erupted into cheers and joyful applause from the guards and staff, their voices echoing into the bright afternoon sky outside.
