Chapter 10 - The Sovereign of Chicago

Six months later.
The summer sun shone brightly over the shores of Lake Michigan, casting a brilliant golden light across the manicured gardens of the Russo estate.
The heavy iron gates of the estate were open, not for security patrols or armored convoys, but for the grandest wedding Chicago had ever seen.
Over five hundred guests filled the lawn—representatives from every major city, political figures, community leaders from Pilsen, and the entire staff of the Russo estate, sitting in places of high honor in the front rows.
At the altar, standing under a massive archway of white roses and peonies, stood Victor Russo.
He looked breathtakingly handsome in a navy-blue morning suit, his slate-grey eyes fixed with intense devotion on the long white carpet leading down the aisle.
Beside him, serving as his proud best man, was sixteen-year-old Tommy Bennett.
Tommy was fully recovered, his health restored thanks to a successful kidney transplant funded and arranged by Victor’s medical network three months earlier. He stood tall, dressed in a matching navy suit, smiling brightly at his future brother-in-law.
The orchestral music shifted into a majestic, booming symphony.
The entire crowd stood up.
Walking down the aisle, holding a bouquet of fresh white lilies, was Chloe.
She was a vision of absolute, magnificent majesty. Her royal wedding dress, woven from imported Italian silk and hand-sewn lace, hugged her slender waist, flowing into a breathtaking ten-foot train that brushed against the rose petals on the grass. Her dark waves were swept back under a long lace veil, locked in place by a regal platinum tiara.
She walked with quiet, unyielding grace—a woman who had survived the darkest winters of poverty, hunger, and fear, now walking toward the man who worshipped the very ground she walked upon.
When she reached the altar, Victor reached out, taking her soft hands into his large, warm palms. He gently lifted her veil, his thumb brushing a tear of joy from her flushed cheek.
“You are breathtaking, my Queen,” Victor whispered, his deep voice rich with endless love.
“And you are my home, Victor,” Chloe replied softly, her warm brown eyes shining with eternal devotion.
The cardinal of Chicago stepped forward, reading the ancient sacred vows of marriage.
When the moment arrived, Victor placed a solid gold band studded with rare blue diamonds onto Chloe’s finger, beside her massive engagement ring. Chloe placed a matching gold band onto Victor’s finger.
“By the power vested in me,” the cardinal announced, his voice echoing over the quiet lake, “I now pronounce you husband and wife. Don Russo... you may kiss your Donna.”
Victor didn't wait a single second.
He wrapped his broad arms tightly around her waist, lifting her completely off her feet, bringing his mouth down onto hers in a deep, magnificent, soul-stirring kiss that sealed their lives together forever.
The entire crowd erupted into wild, thunderous cheers and applause. Rose petals were thrown into the air, dancing like pink snow in the warm summer breeze.
Hand in hand, Don Victor Russo and Donna Chloe Russo walked back down the aisle together, stepping toward their bright, endless future.

They had built a kingdom not on fear, territory, or blood—but on the unyielding foundation of a love that had begun with a sleeping maid in a cold, lonely room.
And as the golden sun set over Chicago, the dark king and his brave queen reigned supreme over their city, safe, untamed, and forever unbroken.
