PART 2: THE NAME HE NEVER KNEW

PART 2: THE NAME HE NEVER KNEW
The courthouse went silent.
Nobody moved.
Nobody breathed.
Because everyone had just witnessed something Daniel never expected.
The woman he spent three years calling weak…
Had a father who could bring the entire courtroom to a standstill.
Judge Samuel Whitmore looked at me.
Not as a judge.
Not as a powerful man.
As my father.
“Claire.”
His voice shook.
“Look at me.”
I tried.
But my eyes were already full of tears.
“Dad…”
That single word changed everything.
Daniel froze.
His face lost all color.
“Dad?”
Vanessa looked between us.
Confusion slowly turned into fear.
“Wait…”
She looked at Daniel.
“You said she had no family.”
Daniel didn’t answer.
Because for the first time…
He had nothing to say.
My father stepped toward me.
The paramedics arrived, but he didn’t move away.
He placed a hand on my shoulder.
“Are you hurt?”
I nodded slightly.
“My stomach…”
His expression darkened.
“Take her to the medical room.”
Then he looked at Daniel.
The warmth disappeared.
“You.”
Daniel swallowed.
“Judge Whitmore…”
My father’s eyes sharpened.
“You know who I am.”
Daniel’s silence answered for him.
My father laughed quietly.
Not because something was funny.
Because he finally understood.
“You knew.”
Daniel looked nervous.
“I didn’t know she was your daughter.”
“No?”
My father stepped closer.
“You spent three years living with her.”
“You slept beside her.”
“You took money from her family company.”
“And you never once asked who she really was?”
Daniel opened his mouth.
Nothing came out.
Because the truth was simple.
He never cared enough to ask.
He only cared about what he could take.
The paramedic helped me stand.
As I passed Daniel, he whispered:
“Claire.”
I stopped.
He looked different now.
Less powerful.
Less certain.
“I didn’t know.”
I looked at him.
“That’s the problem, Daniel.”
“You never knew me.”
Then I walked away.
The medical room was quiet.
The doctor checked the baby.
Every second felt like an hour.
My father stood by the door.
Anger filled every inch of him.
But he stayed silent.
Because he knew what I needed.
Finally, the doctor looked up.
“The baby is stable.”
My body relaxed.
A breath I didn’t know I was holding finally escaped.
My father closed his eyes.
Relief.
Then anger returned.
“Stable?”
The doctor nodded.
“She was lucky.”
My father looked down.
“Lucky.”
He repeated the word.
Like it hurt.
After the doctor left, he sat beside me.
“I should have been there.”
I looked at him.
“Dad…”
“No.”
His voice broke.
“I spent years respecting your choice.”
“You wanted to build your own life.”
“I thought giving you space meant loving you.”
He looked at my bruised stomach.
“But I didn’t know someone was hurting you.”
I reached for his hand.
“You protected me today.”
His eyes filled slightly.
“Not soon enough.”
For the first time in years…
I saw my father not as a judge.
Not as a powerful man.
Just as my dad.
Back in Courtroom 6…
Daniel and Vanessa were no longer confident.
The police had reviewed the security footage.
Every second was recorded.
Vanessa approaching me.
The kick.
Daniel laughing.
His comments.
Everything.
The officer placed the tablet on the table.
“You both need to understand.”
“This is no longer a divorce hearing.”
“This is a criminal investigation.”
Vanessa’s face went pale.
“You’re arresting me?”
The officer looked at her.
“For assault.”
Then he turned to Daniel.
“And you.”
Daniel frowned.
“I didn’t touch her.”
The officer nodded.
“No.”
“You didn’t.”
A pause.
“But you helped create the situation.”
Daniel’s expression changed.
“What does that mean?”
The officer opened another file.
“Financial fraud.”
Daniel froze.
The room became colder.
The officer continued:
“The investigation into Morgan Holdings started months ago.”
“You transferred company funds.”
“You created fake contracts.”
“You moved assets.”
Daniel stared.
“That’s impossible.”
The officer smiled slightly.
“Why?”
“Because you thought your wife couldn’t fight back?”
Daniel said nothing.
The officer placed another document down.
“Emergency asset freeze.”
Daniel’s eyes widened.
“You can’t do that.”
A voice came from the doorway.
My father.
“Yes.”
Everyone turned.
He walked inside.
“You can.”
Daniel stared.
“You arranged this?”
My father looked at him.
“No.”
“I approved it.”
Daniel’s face changed.
Because he finally understood.
This wasn’t about a divorce.
This was about everything he had stolen.
My father looked at him.
“You tried to take my daughter’s company.”
“You attacked my pregnant granddaughter.”
“And now you’re going to learn something.”
Daniel swallowed.
“What?”
My father’s voice was cold.
“You confused kindness with weakness.”
Then the courtroom doors opened again.
A lawyer entered.
A woman carrying a thick file.
She walked straight toward me.
“Claire.”
I recognized her.
My mother’s old attorney.
The woman who had handled my mother’s estate.
She placed the file in front of me.
“I’m sorry it took this long.”
I frowned.
“What is it?”
She looked at Daniel.
Then smiled.
“Your mother left one final instruction.”
My heart stopped.
“My mother?”
She nodded.
“She knew this day might come.”
I opened the file.
Inside was a letter.
And the first line made Daniel’s face go white.
My dearest Claire,
If you are reading this…
It means someone tried to take what was always yours.
I looked up.
Because suddenly I understood.
My mother knew.
She knew Daniel might betray me.
She knew someone might try to steal everything.
The lawyer continued:
“There is one more thing.”
“What?”
She looked at Daniel.
“The company shares he tried to seize…”
A pause.
“They were never available to him.”
Daniel froze.
“Why?”
The lawyer smiled.
“Because your mother created a protection clause.”
“Only the person who truly loves Claire can ever control those assets.”
The courtroom went silent.
And Daniel realized something terrifying.
May you like
Everything he tried to steal…
Was something he never had the right to touch.
