PART 7: THE SECRET MY FATHER HID

PART 7: THE SECRET MY FATHER HID

Nobody spoke.

My father stared at the document on the table.

Not like a man seeing a lie.

Like a man seeing a ghost.

And that scared me more than anything.

“Dad?”

My voice shook.

He looked at me.

His eyes were full of pain.

“Claire…”

I stepped back.

“No.”

“Don’t do that.”

“Don’t look at me like that unless you’re going to tell me the truth.”

Thomas stood behind us, silent.

Enjoying every second.

Because he knew.

He had finally found the one weapon powerful enough to hurt my father.

Me.

My father reached for the document.

But I stopped him.

“No.”

I picked it up myself.

My hands were trembling.

I opened the file.

The first page was a medical record.

A birth certificate.

My name.

My birthday.

Everything looked normal.

Until I saw the second page.

A note attached to the file.

A sealed legal statement.

And one sentence:

PATERNITY STATUS: CONFIDENTIAL.

My breathing stopped.

I looked at my father.

“What is this?”

He didn’t answer.

Thomas smiled.

“Ask him.”

My father’s jaw tightened.

“Thomas.”

“No.”

Thomas laughed.

“You spent thirty years hiding this.”

“Let her know.”

My fingers tightened around the paper.

“Dad.”

Finally…

He spoke.

“I was going to tell you.”

I stared at him.

“When?”

“When I was dying?”

“When it was too late?”

His face fell.

Because he knew I was right.

I had spent my whole life believing I knew who I was.

And now…

Everything was uncertain.

My father whispered:

“You are my daughter.”

I looked up.

“What does that mean?”

He swallowed.

“It means biology is not everything.”

The room became silent.

Thomas laughed.

“There it is.”

“The same speech.”

“He always says that.”

I looked at Thomas.

“Then what is the truth?”

Thomas answered.

“You’re not Samuel Whitmore’s biological daughter.”

My heart stopped.

I turned to my father.

He didn’t deny it.

And that was the most painful part.

I stepped away.

My father looked broken.

“Claire.”

I shook my head.

“I need the truth.”

He closed his eyes.

Then finally said:

“Your mother and I couldn’t have children.”

The words landed softly.

But they destroyed everything.

“She was pregnant when we met.”

I froze.

“What?”

He continued:

“She was already carrying you.”

“My biological father…”

He looked down.

“I don’t know.”

Thomas smiled.

“I do.”

Everyone turned.

Thomas looked at me.

“Your real father was the founder of Morgan Holdings.”

I froze.

“My grandfather?”

Thomas nodded.

“The man everyone thought built the company.”

“But your mother never told anyone.”

I felt dizzy.

This was too much.

My mother.

My father.

My company.

Everything was connected.

Thomas continued:

“Your grandfather created Morgan Holdings.”

“He left it to your mother.”

“But there was a condition.”

My father looked at him.

“Enough.”

Thomas ignored him.

“The company could only pass to his bloodline.”

I stared.

“Meaning?”

Thomas looked at my stomach.

“Meaning your child.”

A cold wave went through me.

My daughter.

Again.

Everyone wanted something from her.

Thomas stepped closer.

“Daniel knew.”

I froze.

“What?”

“He didn’t marry you by accident.”

My father’s face changed.

Thomas continued:

“Daniel was hired.”

“No.”

I whispered.

Thomas nodded.

“He was supposed to marry you.”

“Control you.”

“Control the company.”

“And when you had a child…”

“He would secure the bloodline.”

I felt sick.

All those years.

Every moment.

Every kiss.

Every promise.

Was it all fake?

My father moved toward me.

“Claire, listen to me.”

But I stepped back.

Because I couldn’t handle another person trying to protect me with lies.

Suddenly…

A sound came from outside.

Cars.

Multiple cars.

My father immediately looked toward the window.

Security moved.

“What’s happening?”

Then a guard rushed inside.

“Sir.”

“There’s someone here.”

My father’s face changed.

“Who?”

The guard hesitated.

Then:

“Daniel Carter.”

The room froze.

Daniel.

The man who betrayed me.

The man who attacked me.

The man who was supposed to be arrested.

Thomas smiled.

“Perfect timing.”

I stared at him.

“You knew he was coming?”

No answer.

Then the front door opened.

Daniel walked inside.

But he looked different.

No expensive suit.

No confidence.

No arrogance.

Just fear.

His eyes found mine.

“Claire.”

I didn’t move.

“What are you doing here?”

He looked at Thomas.

Then my father.

Then me.

“I came to tell you the truth.”

I almost laughed.

“Everyone says that.”

He lowered his eyes.

“I deserve that.”

For the first time…

Daniel looked ashamed.

“I was wrong.”

I said nothing.

He continued:

“I thought Thomas was helping me.”

The room went still.

My father stared.

“Helping you?”

Daniel nodded.

“He promised me control of Morgan Holdings.”

My heart sank.

Daniel looked at me.

“But I found out too late.”

“What?”

He swallowed.

“He never planned to give me anything.”

“He planned to remove me too.”

Thomas’s expression changed.

Daniel looked at him.

“You used all of us.”

A small smile appeared on Thomas’s face.

“Finally.”

“You understand.”

Then he reached into his coat.

And everyone froze.

Because he pulled out a weapon.

My father stepped in front of me.

Daniel moved too.

Even after everything…

He protected me.

Thomas pointed the gun.

“Funny.”

“All these years.”

“Everyone fought for the company.”

“But nobody understood.”

He looked at me.

“The company was never the prize.”

May you like

A pause.

“You were.”
