PART 7: THE MAN WHO NEVER LEFT

PART 7: THE MAN WHO NEVER LEFT

The old family estate stood on the edge of the city.

Abandoned.

Silent.

A place full of memories nobody wanted to remember.

Andrew drove through the gates with both hands locked tightly around the steering wheel.

Beside him, Sophia sat quietly.

For the first time in three years, she was sitting next to him again.

But everything was different.

They were not the same people who said goodbye.

They were two people who had survived something that should have destroyed them.

Andrew glanced at her.

“Are you sure you’re okay?”

Sophia looked out the window.

“No.”

The honesty surprised him.

She continued:

“But I’m done pretending I am.”

Andrew nodded.

“I’m sorry.”

She turned.

“For what?”

“For not seeing.”

Sophia looked at him.

“You were grieving.”

“I was alive.”

A painful silence followed.

Then she reached over.

Touched his hand.

“You lost me.”

“But you never stopped loving me.”

Andrew looked down.

“I never could.”

For a moment, the pain softened.

Then they saw the house.

The old Miller estate.

The place where Sophia grew up.

The place she hated returning to.

Andrew parked.

Before they could open the doors…

A message appeared on his phone.

NO POLICE.

NO WEAPONS.

COME INSIDE.

Sophia read it.

“He’s watching us.”

Andrew nodded.

“Yes.”

They entered.

The front door opened before they touched it.

Inside, everything was dark.

The furniture was covered.

The air smelled old.

Like the house had been waiting.

“Thomas!”

Andrew’s voice echoed.

No answer.

Then a small sound.

A child.

Andrew froze.

A voice.

“Daddy?”

He ran.

“Lucas—”

Then stopped.

Because it wasn’t his son.

A recording.

A speaker hidden somewhere.

The voice repeated.

“Daddy?”

Andrew’s face changed.

Sophia grabbed his arm.

“He’s trying to scare us.”

A slow clap came from upstairs.

Everyone looked up.

A man appeared.

Older.

Tired.

Thomas Miller.

Alive.

Andrew’s anger exploded.

“You took my children.”

Thomas looked at him.

“I protected them.”

Andrew stepped forward.

“Where are they?”

Thomas didn’t move.

“Safe.”

“Bring them out.”

Thomas looked at Sophia.

“My daughter.”

Sophia stared.

“You lied to me.”

His expression changed.

“I saved you.”

“No.”

Her voice shook.

“You abandoned me.”

Thomas lowered his head.

“I made a choice.”

“A terrible one.”

Andrew laughed coldly.

“Everyone keeps saying that.”

Thomas looked at him.

“You think I wanted this?”

“Yes.”

The answer was immediate.

Thomas accepted it.

“Maybe.”

Sophia stepped closer.

“Why?”

Thomas looked at her.

“Because I discovered what your grandfather created.”

“The inheritance.”

“The bloodline.”

“The people who would kill for it.”

Sophia shook her head.

“So you hid me.”

“I tried to.”

“You let me lose my children.”

Thomas closed his eyes.

“I thought the danger would disappear.”

Andrew stared.

“You thought wrong.”

“Yes.”

Thomas’s voice broke.

“I was wrong.”

For a second…

He didn’t look like a villain.

He looked like a father.

A father who made a terrible mistake.

Then Andrew remembered.

His sons were still missing.

“Where are Noah and Liam?”

Thomas looked toward a hallway.

“They’re here.”

Andrew moved.

Then Thomas raised his hand.

“Wait.”

Andrew stopped.

“Why?”

Thomas looked at him.

“Because there is something you need to know.”

“No.”

Andrew’s voice was cold.

“I don’t care anymore.”

“You don’t get to tell me another secret.”

Thomas nodded.

“You’re right.”

“But this one concerns Sophia.”

Sophia frowned.

“What?”

Thomas took out an envelope.

Old.

Damaged.

He handed it to her.

She hesitated.

Then opened it.

Inside was a letter.

Her own handwriting.

Sophia froze.

“That’s impossible.”

Thomas watched her.

“You wrote it the night before the fire.”

Andrew looked confused.

“What does it say?”

Sophia read silently.

Then her face changed.

“What?”

She couldn’t answer.

Andrew took the letter.

And read.

I KNOW WHO IS TRYING TO HURT ME.

IF SOMETHING HAPPENS…

DON’T TRUST ANYONE.

NOT EVEN ANDREW.

Andrew stopped.

His heart sank.

“What?”

Sophia shook her head.

“I don’t remember writing this.”

Thomas said quietly:

“Because someone drugged you.”

The room became silent.

Sophia looked at him.

“Who?”

Thomas didn’t answer.

Because a voice came from behind them.

“I did.”

Everyone turned.

Claire.

She stood at the entrance.

But she wasn’t crying.

She wasn’t afraid.

She was calm.

Andrew stared.

“You followed us.”

Claire smiled.

“I had to.”

Sophia stepped forward.

“Why?”

Claire looked at her.

“Because you still don’t know the full truth.”

Andrew’s eyes narrowed.

“What truth?”

Claire looked at Thomas.

Then at Sophia.

“The fire wasn’t planned to kill you.”

A pause.

“It was planned to erase someone else.”

Nobody spoke.

Sophia’s face turned pale.

“Who?”

Claire whispered:

“The person who was really supposed to disappear that night.”

Andrew felt a chill.

Then Claire pointed toward the basement door.

And said:

“Your children are not the only ones hidden in this house.”

The door slowly opened.

And from the darkness…

A man stepped out.

Someone Andrew thought he would never see again.

Someone connected to every lie.

Someone who knew the truth from the beginning.

Michael.

May you like

Andrew’s brother.

Alive.
