PART 8: THE BROTHER WHO KNEW EVERYTHING

PART 8: THE BROTHER WHO KNEW EVERYTHING

Andrew couldn’t move.

The man standing at the bottom of the stairs was impossible.

Michael.

His younger brother.

The person he grew up with.

The person he trusted.

The person who stood beside him at Sophia’s funeral.

The person who cried with him.

The person who told him:

“We’ll get through this.”

But Michael was dead too.

At least…

That was what Andrew believed.

His voice came out broken.

“No.”

Michael looked at him.

Older.

Different.

But still the same eyes.

“Hello, brother.”

Andrew took one step forward.

Then another.

His fists tightened.

“You’re alive.”

Michael nodded.

“Yes.”

“For three years?”

“Yes.”

“And you let me believe you were gone?”

Michael lowered his head.

“Yes.”

The anger hit Andrew all at once.

He grabbed Michael by the collar.

“You watched me suffer.”

“You watched me bury my wife.”

“You watched my children cry.”

Michael didn’t fight back.

Because he knew he deserved it.

“I know.”

Andrew shoved him away.

“No, you don’t.”

“You have no idea.”

Michael looked toward Sophia.

And his expression changed.

Guilt.

“I’m sorry.”

Sophia stared at him.

Her voice was quiet.

“You knew.”

Michael closed his eyes.

“Yes.”

“You knew I was alive?”

“Yes.”

“You knew I had children?”

His silence answered.

Sophia stepped back.

Tears filled her eyes.

“How could you?”

Michael looked destroyed.

“Because I was trying to protect you.”

Andrew laughed.

A bitter laugh.

“Everyone says that.”

Michael looked at him.

“But this time it’s true.”

Andrew shook his head.

“You disappeared.”

“Yes.”

“You lied.”

“Yes.”

“You let us suffer.”

Michael’s face tightened.

“Yes.”

“Then explain.”

Michael took a breath.

“Before the fire…”

“Sophia found something.”

Andrew looked at her.

She nodded slowly.

“The documents.”

Michael continued.

“She discovered the inheritance was not just money.”

“She found evidence that someone inside the family was trying to take control.”

Sophia whispered:

“Eleanor.”

Michael nodded.

“But she wasn’t alone.”

Everyone looked at him.

Andrew’s voice became cold.

“Who else?”

Michael looked at Thomas.

Then at Claire.

Then finally at Andrew.

“Me.”

The room went silent.

Andrew stared.

“What?”

Michael swallowed.

“I helped.”

Sophia’s face changed.

“Why?”

Michael looked broken.

“Because I was angry.”

“At what?”

“At you.”

Andrew froze.

“Me?”

Michael nodded.

“All my life, everything belonged to you.”

“The company.”

“The respect.”

“The love.”

“Even when I tried to prove myself…”

“Everyone saw Andrew.”

Andrew stared.

“You hated me.”

Michael looked down.

“Yes.”

The honesty hurt more than a lie.

“But I never wanted anyone hurt.”

Sophia whispered:

“Then why?”

Michael’s voice cracked.

“Because Claire found me.”

Everyone turned.

Claire looked away.

Michael continued.

“She knew I was angry.”

“She knew I wanted what Andrew had.”

“She convinced me we could take control.”

Andrew looked at Claire.

“You used him.”

Claire didn’t answer.

Michael nodded.

“Yes.”

“But when Sophia discovered everything…”

“I realized what I had done.”

Sophia looked confused.

“What did you do?”

Michael’s face turned pale.

“I warned you.”

Sophia froze.

“What?”

“The night of the fire.”

“I tried to get you out.”

Andrew stared.

“Then why did you disappear?”

Michael looked toward the floor.

“Because I found the real person behind everything.”

A chill went through the room.

“Who?”

Michael looked at Thomas.

“Your father.”

Sophia’s face changed.

“No.”

Thomas looked away.

Michael continued.

“Thomas knew about the inheritance.”

“He knew the children would be the key.”

“He wanted control.”

Sophia shook her head.

“My father loved me.”

Michael’s eyes softened.

“I thought that too.”

“But people become different when power is involved.”

The room went silent.

Then suddenly—

A sound.

A child crying.

Andrew’s head snapped toward the hallway.

“My boys.”

He ran.

Sophia followed.

They found a locked room.

Andrew hit the door.

“NOAH!”

“LIAM!”

A small voice answered.

“Daddy!”

Andrew nearly broke.

“I’m here!”

He forced the door open.

Inside…

The twins were sitting together.

Scared.

But safe.

Andrew dropped to his knees.

He pulled them into his arms.

“My babies.”

Noah cried.

“Daddy, we thought you left.”

Andrew held him tighter.

“Never.”

Liam looked over his shoulder.

“Mommy?”

Sophia stepped inside.

The boys saw her.

And everything stopped.

Then they ran.

“Mommy!”

Sophia fell to the floor.

Holding both sons.

Crying.

Laughing.

Apologizing.

“I’m here.”

“I’m here.”

Andrew watched.

After everything…

His family was together.

But then—

A slow clap came from behind.

Everyone turned.

Thomas.

He was standing there.

Smiling.

And holding a small black box.

Andrew immediately stood.

“What is that?”

Thomas looked at the children.

“The reason all of this happened.”

Sophia’s face changed.

“Dad.”

Thomas opened the box.

Inside was a key.

An old key.

“The original inheritance.”

Everyone stared.

Thomas smiled.

“The real fortune.”

A pause.

“The one nobody knows about.”

Andrew stepped forward.

“Put it down.”

Thomas laughed.

“You still don’t understand.”

“The money was never the goal.”

“Then what was?”

Thomas looked at the twins.

“The bloodline.”

Sophia stepped in front of them.

“No.”

Thomas looked sad.

“I’m sorry.”

And then…

The lights went out.

A loud sound came from outside.

Cars.

Many cars.

Andrew realized.

They weren’t alone.

May you like

Someone else had arrived.

Someone Thomas was waiting for.
