Chapter 8 - The Battle of the Harbor

The south harbor terminal was a chaotic expanse of steel shipping containers, towering electric cranes, and asphalt roadways glistening under the rain-heavy afternoon sky.
Four matte-black bulletproof SUVs roared through the terminal gates, their tires spraying rainwater across the pavement as they slammed to a halt in a defensive formation in front of Crane Pier 04.
Ronan stepped out of the lead vehicle, holding a heavy umbrella over Ivy as she stepped down onto the wet asphalt in her emerald trousersuit and high heels. Twenty armed Blackwood security officers spilled out of the trailing cars, their sidearms drawn, taking tactical positions behind the steel containers.
At the center of the pier stood twelve men armed with automatic rifles.
Standing in front of them was Julian Hale—Vivienne’s father. He was a bloated, middle-aged man with sweat-drenched silver hair, his expensive three-piece suit disheveled, his face twisted in a mixture of fear and desperate rage.
"Blackwood!" Julian screamed over the sound of the crashing harbor waves. "You destroyed my family! You ruined my reputation! My accounts are frozen, my daughter is in hiding, and federal agents are searching my offices!"
Ronan stepped forward, keeping Ivy safely behind his broad shoulder, his voice echoing across the open pier with cold, absolute authority.
"You ruined yourself, Julian," Ronan said. "You stole from your partners, sold my security routes to foreigners, and murdered an innocent accountant four years ago to cover your tracks."
Julian’s eyes shifted wildly until they landed on Ivy standing behind Ronan.
"You!" Julian spat, pointing a trembling, ink-stained finger at her. "I recognized you the moment I saw the internal police report! You are Arthur Lancaster’s daughter! That fat, pathetic maid who seduced my daughter's fiancé!"
Ronan’s hand moved to the heavy holster inside his coat, his face turning into an expression of pure, terrifying violence. "Speak to her like that again, Julian, and I will feed you to the harbor current piece by piece."
"Stay back, Ronan!" Julian shouted, waving his hand toward the men behind him. "My boys control the central logistics terminal! If you don't release my frozen assets and hand over the Lancaster girl, I will detonate the fuel lines along this entire pier! Your harbor expansion will be ruined!"
Ivy stepped out from behind Ronan’s shoulder, her posture straight, her face entirely devoid of fear.
"You won't detonate anything, Mr. Hale," Ivy said, her rich, clear voice carrying easily across the windy dock.
Julian sneered at her. "Shut your mouth, girl! You know nothing about logistics!"
"I know," Ivy continued calmly, pulling a black digital tablet from her jacket pocket, "that twenty minutes ago, I executed an emergency security override through the central harbor mainframe. I permanently cut the power supply to Crane Pier 04."
Julian blinked, his arrogant smile faltering. "What?"
"The fuel lines you are threatening to detonate require a two-hundred-and-forty-volt electrical ignition charge from the primary control room," Ivy explained with cold, mathematical precision. "Which means the deadman's switch your lieutenant is holding is currently connected to an empty, unpowered circuit."
Julian’s head snapped back toward his lead lieutenant, who was frantically pressing a red button on a black transmitter. Nothing happened.
"You... you lied!" Julian stammered, panic surging through his voice.
"She didn't lie, Julian," Ronan sneered, pulling a heavy silver sidearm from his coat with terrifying speed. "She just audited your death."
Before Julian’s men could react, Ronan raised his hand, signalling his security team.
In a matter of seconds, twenty Blackwood operatives moved forward like a tidal wave. Tactical flashbangs exploded across the pier, blinding Julian’s men, followed by the precise, efficient neutralization of every armed loyalist on the dock. Within three minutes, Julian’s entire security detail was disarmed, pinned to the wet asphalt, and bound in heavy zip-ties.
Julian Hale fell to his knees in the rain, sobbing hysterically as Vance stepped forward, slapping heavy steel handcuffs around his wrists.
Ronan holstered his sidearm, turning back to Ivy, who was standing quietly in her wet silk suit, looking entirely unbothered by the violent confrontation that had just unfolded before her.
Ronan walked up to her, his grey eyes shining with absolute adoration.
"Have I mentioned," Ronan murmured, taking her face in his warm, large hands, "that you are the most incredible woman I have ever met?"
May you like
Ivy smiled—a bright, beautiful, dazzling expression that lit up the grey afternoon sky. "You mentioned something similar in the dressing room, Mr. Blackwood."
"Then let me show you," Ronan whispered, leaning down and kissing her soundly on the lips, sealing their partnership in front of the entire harbor.
