Chapter 9 - The Sovereign Court

Two months later.

The city had undergone a monumental transformation. The fall of the Hale family had sent shockwaves through the political and economic landscape, resulting in the cleanup of corrupt city council members, the restructuring of port logistics, and the arrest of key syndicate traitors.

At the center of this new era was Blackwood Manor.

On this cold, clear winter evening, the grand ballroom was once again filled with two hundred guests. But the atmosphere in the room was entirely different from the night of the Solstice Gala.

There were no arrogant socialites sneering at the staff; no corrupt politicians laughing over black-market bribes. The room was filled with union leaders, reformed syndicate captains, community organizers, and the entire domestic staff of the estate, who had been invited as honored guests to the evening's celebration.

Mia, now dressed in a neat administrative suit, stood near the grand entrance, ushering guests inside with a bright, confident smile, her family’s medical debts fully paid, her brothers thriving in school.

At seven o'clock precisely, the brass doors at the top of the grand staircase swung open.

Ronan Blackwood walked out onto the landing, wearing a tailored black velvet tuxedo. Beside him, her arm resting comfortably in his, was Ivy Lancaster.

She looked like absolute royalty.

She wore a custom royal navy velvet gown designed specifically for her full, curvy figure. The dress featured a sweetheart neckline that highlighted her broad shoulders and soft collarbones, tapering inward at her waist before cascading down in heavy, luxurious folds to the floor. Around her neck sat a stunning diamond necklace—not a weapon of vanity, but a gift from Ronan, restored from her family’s original estate.

Her dark, thick hair was styled in an elegant regal updo, framing her beautiful, radiant face.

As the couple descended the marble stairs together, the two hundred guests in the ballroom rose to their feet, delivering a thunderous, standing ovation that echoed off the high frescoed ceiling.

Ronan guided Ivy to the elevated dais in the center of the hall—the very spot where she had once bled through her navy uniform.

He raised his hand, instantly hushing the crowd.

"Two months ago," Ronan began, his baritone voice filling the silent room, "this room was a testament to cruelty, arrogance, and fake power. Tonight, it is a testament to justice, strength, and true loyalty."

He turned to look at Ivy, taking both of her soft hands in his large, scarred ones, his eyes filled with a deep, unyielding devotion.

"Ivy Lancaster came into my life as an invisible shield for those who could not protect themselves. She uncovered the truth, brought down my enemies, and restored the honor of my house."

He reached into his inner pocket, pulling out a small velvet box, opening it to reveal a massive, flawless canary diamond ring that glowed like sunlight under the chandelier lights.

He dropped to one knee before her on the polished marble floor.

The crowd gasped softly, then fell into absolute, breathless silence.

"Ivy," Ronan said, his voice raw with emotion. "You took a blow for my people. Now, let me spend the rest of my life protecting yours. Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife, my equal, and the sovereign queen of the Blackwood Empire?"

Ivy looked down at the most feared man in the city, kneeling before her with love and vulnerability in his eyes. Tears of pure, unadulterated happiness finally broke through her dark eyes, cascading down her soft, warm cheeks.

"Yes, Ronan," Ivy whispered, her voice carrying through the quiet room. "Yes, I will."

Ronan slipped the golden ring onto her finger, standing up and sweeping her broad, voluptuous frame into his arms, kissing her passionately as the ballroom erupted into a deafening roar of applause and celebration.
