Chapter 8 - THE MIRACLE

Three weeks later, in the early hours of a snowy Tuesday morning, the storm arrived in full force.
Grace woke up at 3:00 a.m. to a sharp, intense contraction that made her gasp aloud. She sat up in her king-sized bed, clutching her stomach as a warm wave of liquid broke across the sheets.
Her daughter was coming—three weeks early.
She pressed the emergency call button beside her bed. Within thirty seconds, Mrs. Gable rushed into the room, followed immediately by Vincent, who was wearing a dark robe, his hair messy, his eyes wide with concern.
"Grace! What is it?" Vincent asked, rushing to her side.
"My water broke," Grace panted, clutching his hand tightly as another powerful contraction hit her. "Vincent... she's coming!"
"Marco! Get the medical transport ready now!" Vincent shouted down the hallway.
Outside, the snowstorm was howling, blinding white sheets of snow covering the estate roads. Driving to the hospital in the storm would be dangerously slow, but Vincent had already prepared for every contingency.
Dr. Hannah Mercer and her specialized obstetric team had been staying in the estate's private guest house for the last two weeks, specifically for this scenario.
Within ten minutes, Grace was carried into the estate's fully equipped private medical suite on the ground floor. Bright lights were turned on, sterile equipment was prepared, and Dr. Mercer was at her side, checking her vitals.
"You're already four centimeters dilated, Grace," Dr. Mercer said calmly, monitoring the baby's heartbeat on the screen. "The heart rate is stable, but we need to move steadily. You're doing great."
Grace held onto Vincent’s hand with a vise-like grip. He didn't leave her side for a single second. He sat on a stool beside her head, wiping her brow with a cool, damp cloth, whispering steady words of encouragement in her ear.
"Breathe, Grace," Vincent whispered softly, his voice an anchor in the pain. "You are the strongest woman I know. Your mother is watching over you right now."
For five grueling hours, through the dark winter night, Grace pushed through the intense waves of labor. Whenever the pain felt overwhelming, whenever she felt like giving up, she looked into Vincent’s fierce, unwavering grey eyes and found the strength to keep going.
At 8:14 a.m., as the morning sun broke through the snow clouds outside, filling the room with golden light, a loud, sharp, magnificent cry echoed through the suite.
"She's here!" Dr. Mercer cried out with a bright smile. "A beautiful, healthy baby girl!"
Grace fell back against the pillows, gasping for breath, tears of pure ecstasy streaming down her face.
Dr. Mercer quickly wiped the baby clean, wrapped her in a warm pink blanket, and gently laid her directly onto Grace’s chest.
Grace looked down at her daughter. She had a soft tuft of dark hair, rosy cheeks, and tiny fingers that immediately curled around Grace’s pinky finger.
"Oh, my sweet girl," Grace sobbed happily, kissing the baby's forehead. "My beautiful girl."
Vincent leaned over the bed, looking down at the tiny miracle lying on Grace’s chest. The formidable, feared crime boss of Philadelphia had tears streaming silently down his face. He reached out with a large, trembling finger, gently touching the baby's tiny cheek.
The baby opened her eyes—a striking, brilliant shade of amber—and let out a soft, sweet coo.
"She's perfect, Grace," Vincent choked out, his voice thick with emotion. "She’s completely perfect."
Grace looked up at Vincent, taking his hand and placing it over the baby's tiny body. "I want to name her Sarah," Grace whispered softly. "Sarah Vincent Miller."

Vincent stared at her, his heart swelling with an emotion so immense it overwhelmed him completely. He leaned down and pressed a long, gentle kiss onto Grace’s forehead, then kissed the baby's head.
"Thank you, Grace," Vincent whispered fiercely against her skin. "Thank you for bringing light back into this house."
