Chapter 9 - A NEW DAWN

Six months later.

Spring had arrived in Philadelphia. The estate gardens were in full bloom, filled with vibrant tulips, blooming cherry blossoms, and the sweet scent of fresh grass.

In the sunlit courtyard, a small, intimate celebration was taking place.

Grace sat on a cushioned garden bench wearing a simple, elegant blue dress. On her lap sat six-month-old Sarah, chubby, happy, and babbling cheerfully as she played with a silver rattle.

Around them gathered their real family—Mrs. Gable holding a tray of fresh lemonade, Dr. Hannah Mercer smiling as she checked baby Sarah’s growth chart, and Marco standing near the archway, looking like a proud uncle.

Footsteps echoed across the flagstones.

Vincent walked out into the courtyard. He was dressed in a relaxed white linen shirt and dark trousers, looking ten years younger than the day he had walked into the hospital lobby. The sharp, cold edges of his past had been smoothed away by the warmth of the home he had built.

"Look who’s here," Grace smiled, lifting Sarah up. "Say hi to Daddy!"

Vincent’s face lit up with a brilliant, genuine smile. He walked over, kneeling in front of the bench, and lifted little Sarah into his arms. The baby instantly squealed with delight, grabbing Vincent’s nose with her tiny hands.

Vincent laughed—a deep, rich sound that filled the garden—and kissed her soft cheek repeatedly.

"How is my favorite girl today?" Vincent asked, swinging her gently in his arms before settling beside Grace on the bench.

He wrapped one strong arm around Grace’s shoulders, pulling her close against his side. Grace rested her head against his chest, watching Sarah play with Vincent’s suit button.

"Dr. Mercer says Sarah is in the ninety-fifth percentile for growth," Grace said proudly. "Her heart is completely healthy."

"She gets her strength from her mother," Vincent said softly, looking down at Grace with profound affection.

"Vincent?" Grace asked, looking up into his eyes.

"Yes, my love?"

"Do you remember the day we met at the hospital?" Grace asked quietly. "When Patricia tore up my appointment slip and told me I didn't belong there?"

Vincent’s eyes darkened for a brief second at the memory, but the coldness vanished quickly as he looked at her. "I remember."

Grace smiled, resting her hand over his heart. "I used to think she was right. I spent my whole life believing I didn't belong anywhere good. But now... looking at this home, looking at Sarah, looking at you... I know I belong right here."

May you like

Vincent leaned down, his lips meeting hers in a slow, deep, breathtaking kiss that carried all the love, protection, and devotion he had held in his heart for the past year.

"You belong with me, Grace," Vincent whispered against her lips. "Forever."
