PART 5: THE HOUSE OF SECRETS

PART 5: THE HOUSE OF SECRETS
The Whitmore mansion looked different at night.
During the day, it was a symbol of wealth.
A beautiful estate surrounded by gardens and tall trees.
A place where generations of the family had celebrated birthdays, weddings, and holidays.
But under the darkness…
It looked like a place that was hiding something.
Daniel stood outside the gates.
The same gates he walked through as a child.
The same path where his father used to pick him up after school.
Memories came rushing back.
A father who smiled.
A mother who protected him.
A family that seemed perfect.
Now he knew.
It had never been perfect.
Behind every happy moment was a secret.
Richard stood beside him.
“This is where he grew up.”
Daniel looked at him.
“Lucas?”
Richard nodded.
Daniel frowned.
“You said he was sick.”
Richard looked away.
“He was.”
“Then why didn’t you help him?”
The question was sharp.
Richard had no answer.
Finally he whispered:
“Because I was afraid.”
Daniel laughed softly.
“Of your own son?”
Richard looked at the mansion.
“Yes.”
The honesty surprised Daniel.
Before he could respond, the gates opened.
Slowly.
By themselves.
A message appeared on the phone.
COME INSIDE.
Daniel stared.
“He’s watching us.”
Richard nodded.
“Probably.”
Eleanor remained in the car with the police.
Daniel wanted her safe.
For once, he refused to let another person make a decision for her.
He and Richard entered the mansion.
The front door was unlocked.
Inside, everything looked frozen in time.
Dust covered the furniture.
Old paintings hung on the walls.
Family photographs remained exactly where they had always been.
Daniel stopped in front of one.
A picture of himself as a child.
Beside him stood Richard.
And Eleanor.
No Lucas.
His brother was missing from every memory.
Every photograph.
Every story.
Like he had never existed.
Daniel whispered:
“You erased him.”
Richard looked ashamed.
“Yes.”
A voice suddenly came from upstairs.
“Not me.”
Both looked up.
Lucas.
Standing at the top of the stairs.
Older.
Tired.
But calm.
Daniel stared.
For the first time, he saw his brother.
Not as a threat.
Not as a name.
A person.
A person who looked strangely familiar.
Lucas smiled.
“Hello, brother.”
Daniel didn’t answer.
“You don’t know what to say, do you?”
“No.”
Lucas laughed.
“Good.”
“You spent your whole life having answers.”
Daniel stepped forward.
“Where is Mom?”
Lucas ignored the question.
“Still protecting her.”
He looked at Richard.
“You always loved him more.”
Richard’s face changed.
“Lucas…”
“Don’t.”
The anger appeared instantly.
“Don’t say my name like you care.”
Silence.
Daniel watched them.
A father.
Two sons.
A family destroyed by years of choices.
Lucas walked down the stairs.
“You know what’s funny?”
Daniel said nothing.
“Everyone thinks money caused this.”
He smiled.
“It didn’t.”
“It was never about money.”
Daniel frowned.
“Then what?”
Lucas looked directly at him.
“Being invisible.”
The words were quiet.
Painful.
“I spent my entire life watching you.”
“Your birthday parties.”
“Your awards.”
“Your father teaching you everything.”
“And me?”
He laughed.
“I was the secret.”
Daniel felt something.
Not forgiveness.
Not yet.
But understanding.
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
Lucas stopped.
“What?”
“Why didn’t you come to me?”
“You’re my brother.”
Lucas’s face changed.
A small moment of pain.
Then anger returned.
“Because I hated you.”
Daniel nodded.
“At least that’s honest.”
Lucas looked at him.
“I wanted you to feel what I felt.”
“That’s why I helped Victoria.”
Daniel froze.
“You?”
Lucas smiled.
“Yes.”
“The cliff.”
“The inheritance.”
“Everything.”
Daniel’s eyes darkened.
“You almost killed my mother.”
Lucas looked away.
“I didn’t plan that part.”
Daniel stepped forward.
“But you caused it.”
Lucas said nothing.
That was enough.
“You ruined lives.”
Lucas looked at him.
“Didn’t Dad ruin mine first?”
Richard stepped forward.
“This ends now.”
Lucas laughed.
“You always say that.”
“You said it when you sent me away.”
“You said it when you erased me.”
“You said it when you buried me.”
Daniel looked at Richard.
“Buried?”
Lucas smiled.
“Tell him.”
Richard was silent.
Daniel’s face changed.
“What?”
Lucas walked toward an old cabinet.
He opened it.
Inside were files.
Hundreds.
He pulled one out.
“Your father didn’t just hide me.”
“He changed records.”
“Changed my identity.”
“Made sure nobody knew I existed.”
Daniel looked at Richard.
“Is that true?”
Richard didn’t answer.
Again.
Silence.
Daniel shook his head.
“I don’t know who any of you are anymore.”
Lucas’s expression softened.
For a second.
Then his phone rang.
He looked at it.
His face changed.
“What?”
Daniel noticed.
“What happened?”
Lucas ignored him.
Then the mansion lights went out.
Everything became dark.
A sound came from outside.
Cars.
Many cars.
Richard immediately became alert.
“That’s not police.”
Daniel looked toward the window.
Black vehicles surrounded the mansion.
Lucas whispered:
“No.”
Daniel turned.
“You know them?”
Lucas looked afraid.
And that was the first time Daniel saw real fear on his brother’s face.
“They found me.”
“Who?”
Lucas stared into the darkness.
“The people I was running from.”
The front door exploded open.
Several armed men entered.
Everyone froze.
A man walked in behind them.
Older.
Expensive suit.
Calm smile.
He looked at Richard.
Then Daniel.
Then Lucas.
And said:
“After all these years…”
“You finally brought the whole family together.”
Daniel stepped forward.
“Who are you?”
The man smiled.
“The person who created this entire mess.”
Silence.
Then he looked at Lucas.
“You failed.”
Lucas looked furious.
“I’m not your servant.”
The man smiled.
“No.”
“You’re my son.”
Everyone froze.
Daniel looked at Lucas.
Richard looked shocked.
And Lucas…
For the first time…
Looked completely broken.
Because the man standing in front of them was not just another enemy.
He was the person who controlled everything.
The person behind the secrets.
The person behind the lies.

His name was Victor Hale.
And he had come to collect what he believed belonged to him.
