PART 9: THE OTHER CHILD

PART 9: THE OTHER CHILD
Nobody in the mansion spoke.
The message stayed on the screen.
I FOUND THE OTHER ONE.
Five words.
But they carried a terrifying meaning.
Another child.
Another secret.
Another person who had been hidden.
Daniel looked at Sophia.
His sister looked as shocked as he was.
“You didn’t know?”
Sophia shook her head.
“No.”
Her voice was quiet.
“I thought I was alone.”
Eleanor covered her mouth.
Tears filled her eyes.
“No…”
Richard stared at the old photograph.
His hands trembled.
The man who always seemed fearless finally looked broken.
“What have we done?”
Daniel looked at him.
“What do you mean?”
Richard didn’t answer immediately.
Then he whispered:
“What if the person we lost…”
“Was never lost?”
The words made everyone uncomfortable.
Because everyone understood.
For decades, they accepted stories without questioning.
Deaths.
Disappearances.
Missing children.
They believed because they wanted to.
Because the truth was too painful.
The police searched the area around the mansion.
The mysterious car was gone.
Whoever sent the message had disappeared.
But they left behind one thing.
A small package.
Placed near the gate.
Inside was an old hospital bracelet.
Sophia picked it up.
Her face changed.
“This is mine.”
Daniel looked at her.
“How do you know?”
Sophia touched the faded letters.
“Because I wore one exactly like this.”
Eleanor stepped closer.
She looked at the bracelet.
Then she began shaking.
“I remember.”
Everyone turned.
“What?”
Eleanor closed her eyes.
“The hospital.”
She looked at Sophia.
“When you and your sister were born…”
“I heard crying.”
“Two babies.”
Daniel felt a chill.
“But then?”
Eleanor’s voice broke.
“Your grandfather came into the room.”
Richard froze.
“What?”
Eleanor looked at him.
“He told me one of the babies had complications.”
“And the doctors needed to move her.”
Richard stared.
“I didn’t know.”
“I know.”
Eleanor looked tired.
“That was the beginning.”
Sophia whispered:
“He took her.”
Eleanor nodded.
“Yes.”
Daniel clenched his fists.
“All these years.”
“He let everyone believe she was dead.”
Sophia looked at the bracelet.
“But she survived.”
A police officer entered.
“Mr. Whitmore.”
Everyone turned.
“We found a lead.”
Daniel immediately moved.
“What lead?”
The officer handed him a file.
“A private adoption record.”
Sophia opened it.
Her eyes moved across the page.
Then froze.
“No.”
Daniel looked.
“What?”
Sophia looked at him.
The paper shook in her hand.
“The name.”
She pointed.
Daniel read it.
And his blood turned cold.
The adopted child’s name was:
Clara Hale.
The same last name as Victor.
Everyone understood at once.
Victor Hale.
He didn’t just manipulate Lucas.
He wasn’t only connected to Sophia.
He had another secret.
Richard’s face turned pale.
“Victor…”
Sophia whispered:
“He had her.”
Daniel looked confused.
“What?”
Sophia explained:
“My sister.”
“She was raised by Victor Hale.”
Silence.
The same man who destroyed their family.
Had raised another Whitmore child.
A third sibling.
Daniel felt sick.
“How?”
Sophia looked at him.
“Because Victor wanted a Whitmore.”
“A child with our blood.”
“For what?”
Nobody answered.
Until the officer spoke.
“We found more documents.”
He opened another file.
Inside were medical records.
Blood tests.
DNA reports.
Daniel scanned them.
Then stopped.
“What is this?”
The officer looked serious.
“Victor was trying to prove something.”
Daniel looked up.
“What?”
The officer answered:
“That Clara was the rightful heir.”
The room went silent.
Sophia frowned.
“But why?”
The officer continued:
“Because according to these records…”
“Clara was not only Richard Whitmore’s daughter.”
“She was also the only child who inherited a rare genetic marker required by your grandfather’s trust.”
Daniel stared.
The pieces connected.
The inheritance.
The children.
The lies.
Everything.
Victor didn’t want money.
He wanted the one child who could unlock everything.
The one child everyone thought was gone.
Clara.
Daniel looked at Sophia.
“She’s alive?”
Sophia nodded.
“Somewhere.”
Then Daniel’s phone rang.
Unknown number.
Everyone froze.
He answered.
“Hello?”
A woman’s voice.
Young.
Scared.
“Is this Daniel Whitmore?”
Daniel looked at Sophia.
“Yes.”
A pause.
Then:
“My name is Clara.”
The entire room stopped.
Daniel couldn’t breathe.
The missing child.
The other twin.
Was calling them.
“Where are you?”
The voice trembled.
“I need help.”
“Clara, tell me where you are.”
A pause.
Then she whispered:
“I’m at the old Hale property.”
Daniel frowned.
“The Hale property?”
“Yes.”
Her voice became desperate.
“But you need to hurry.”
“Why?”
Silence.
Then:
“Because Victor isn’t the only person here.”
Daniel froze.
“What?”
Clara whispered:
“The person who raised me…”
“She’s here too.”
“Who?”
A long pause.
Then Clara said:
“The woman who started everything.”
Everyone waited.
“Who?”
The answer came softly.
And it destroyed Eleanor.
“Grandmother.”
The phone went silent.
Daniel slowly lowered it.
Everyone looked at Eleanor.
Because there was only one grandmother.
And she had been standing beside them the entire time.
Eleanor’s face turned white.
“No…”
Sophia stepped back.
“Who?”
Eleanor couldn’t speak.
Daniel stared.
“Mom.”
She started crying.
“I thought she was dead.”
“Who?”
The old woman whispered:
“Your grandmother.”
Daniel froze.
“My grandmother died before I was born.”
Eleanor looked at him.
“That’s what everyone believed.”
The room became cold.
Because the truth was no longer about one family.
It was about generations of lies.
And somewhere on the old Hale property…
May you like
A woman who should have been dead…
Was waiting for them.
