PART 6: THE MAN BEHIND EVERYTHING

PART 6: THE MAN BEHIND EVERYTHING
The name echoed through the mansion.
Victor Hale.
Nobody spoke.
Nobody moved.
Because the person standing in the doorway did not look like a criminal.
He looked like a businessman.
A man who belonged in a luxury office.
Not in the middle of a family nightmare.
But Daniel immediately understood something.
The most dangerous people were often the ones who looked the most normal.
Victor smiled.
“Richard.”
His eyes moved to Daniel.
“And you must be the famous Daniel Whitmore.”
Daniel stared.
“Who are you?”
Victor laughed softly.
“You really don’t know.”
He looked at Lucas.
“That’s what makes this even more interesting.”
Lucas’s face was full of anger.
“Leave.”
Victor raised an eyebrow.
“After everything I did for you?”
Lucas stepped forward.
“I said leave.”
Victor’s smile disappeared.
“You still don’t understand your position.”
Daniel looked between them.
“What is happening?”
Nobody answered.
Victor walked further inside.
The armed men followed.
Richard immediately stepped in front of Eleanor’s empty direction.
“She’s not here.”
Victor looked amused.
“Still protecting your wife.”
He shook his head.
“You never learned.”
Daniel’s eyes narrowed.
“You know where my mother is?”
Victor smiled.
“Of course.”
His expression became cold.
“I know everything.”
The words made the room feel smaller.
Daniel clenched his fists.
“Where is she?”
Victor ignored him.
Instead, he looked at Lucas.
“You were supposed to bring me the documents.”
Lucas’s jaw tightened.
“I destroyed them.”
Victor laughed.
“No.”
“You hid them.”
Lucas said nothing.
Victor looked at Daniel.
“Your brother was always emotional.”
Daniel glanced at Lucas.
“You’re working with him?”
Lucas looked away.
The silence was enough.
Daniel felt betrayed again.
Another person.
Another secret.
“You helped him?”
Lucas’s voice was low.
“I thought I could use him.”
Daniel stared.
“For what?”
Lucas looked at Victor with hatred.
“To destroy Dad.”
Richard’s face hardened.
“And you thought he would help you?”
Lucas didn’t answer.
Victor smiled.
“Poor Lucas.”
“You spent your whole life wanting revenge.”
“And you never realized revenge makes people easy to control.”
The words hit.
Because they were true.
Lucas had spent years hating his family.
And Victor used that hatred.
Daniel looked at Victor.
“You created all of this.”
Victor nodded.
“Yes.”
The calmness was terrifying.
“Why?”
Victor walked toward the old fireplace.
“Because families like yours always believe blood makes them powerful.”
He looked around.
“The Whitmores.”
“The money.”
“The reputation.”
“All built on a lie.”
Richard’s voice was angry.
“You’re the one who destroyed it.”
Victor smiled.
“No.”
“I only revealed what was already broken.”
Daniel stepped forward.
“You used my wife.”
Victor looked at him.
“Victoria?”
He laughed.
“She was useful.”
Daniel’s expression darkened.
“She tried to kill my mother.”
“And failed.”
The cold answer shocked him.
Victor didn’t care.
Not even a little.
“You still don’t understand.”
“You think this is about your family.”
“It isn’t.”
Daniel frowned.
“Then what is it?”
Victor looked at him.
“It’s about inheritance.”
Daniel sighed.
“Again?”
“Money?”
“No.”
Victor shook his head.
“Control.”
He pointed toward the mansion.
“Your grandfather built an empire.”
“He trusted only his bloodline.”
“But he made one mistake.”
Daniel waited.
“He created a system.”
Victor smiled.
“A system that decides who deserves everything.”
Richard looked confused.
“What are you saying?”
Victor looked at Lucas.
“Tell them.”
Lucas didn’t move.
Victor’s smile faded.
“Fine.”
He opened a briefcase.
Inside was a file.
“Your grandfather created a final condition.”
Daniel took a step closer.
“What condition?”
Victor answered:
“The Whitmore fortune cannot belong to one person.”
“It belongs to the person who proves they are willing to protect the family.”
Silence.
Daniel frowned.
“That’s impossible.”
Victor nodded.
“Exactly.”
“Your family has spent decades fighting each other.”
“Which means nobody has passed the test.”
Richard stared.
“This is why…”
Victor nodded.
“This is why I came.”
Daniel shook his head.
“You’re insane.”
Victor smiled.
“Maybe.”
“But I’m not wrong.”
Suddenly, a sound came from outside.
A car.
Everyone turned.
The front doors opened.
Police officers entered.
Daniel’s face changed.
But these weren’t the officers from earlier.
A man in uniform stepped forward.
“Victor Hale.”
Everyone froze.
Victor looked annoyed.
The officer continued:
“You are under arrest.”
For the first time…
Victor looked surprised.
“How?”
The officer smiled.
“Your mistake was believing everyone could be bought.”
Daniel looked confused.
Then the officer looked at him.
“Mr. Whitmore, your mother is safe.”
Daniel finally breathed.
Relief.
But then he saw something.
The officer wasn’t looking at Victor.
He was looking at Lucas.
“Lucas Hale.”
Lucas froze.
The officer continued:
“You are also under arrest.”
Daniel’s eyes widened.
“What?”
Lucas looked shocked.
“Me?”
The officer nodded.
“Evidence connects you to the attack on Mrs. Whitmore.”
Lucas looked at Victor.
“You betrayed me.”
Victor smiled.
“No.”
“I taught you.”
Lucas’s anger exploded.
“You used me!”
Victor answered quietly:
“You allowed yourself to be used.”
The police moved toward Lucas.
Daniel stood still.
His brother.
The person he just started understanding.
The person who was both victim and attacker.
Was being taken away.
Lucas looked at Daniel.
For the first time, there was no anger.
Only exhaustion.
“I never wanted to hurt you.”
Daniel looked at him.
“Then why?”
Lucas’s eyes filled.
“Because I spent my whole life wanting someone to ask me if I was okay.”
The words stayed in the air.
Then he was taken away.
The mansion became quiet.
Victor was arrested too.
The night finally seemed over.
But Daniel knew better.
Because as the police searched Victor’s files…
They found one last document.
A document hidden inside the old family safe.
The officer handed it to Daniel.
“We found this with your grandfather’s records.”
Daniel opened it.
His face changed.
“What?”
Eleanor, now brought inside safely, looked at him.
“Daniel?”
He slowly turned the paper around.
A birth certificate.
A name.
A date.
And another shocking truth.
Lucas wasn’t the only child Richard had hidden.
There was someone else.
A third sibling.
May you like
And this one…
Had been missing for thirty years.
