Chapter 10 - The Unbroken Foundation

Back at the Vance family estate on Lake Norman, the evening sky was painted in shades of purple and gold.
Three-year-old Arthur was running across the lush green lawn, laughing hysterically as his uncles, Marcus and Julian, chased him with a large toy soccer ball.
"Catch him, Marc!" Julian shouted, laughing as the energetic toddler outmaneuvered Marcus near the flower garden. "He's too fast for you!"
Grace sat on the stone verandah with Gabriel, watching her son play.
"He's happy, Grace," Gabriel said softly, taking a sip of his tea. "You built a good life for him."
"We built it, Gabe," Grace said, looking at her three brothers—the men who had protected her, stood by her, and given her the strength to reclaim her life when everything had fallen apart. "You guys saved me."
"No, Gracie," Marcus called out as he walked up the terrace steps, carrying little Arthur on his shoulders, the toddler giggling as he pulled on his uncle's ears. "You saved yourself. We just made sure nobody got in your way."
Grace stood up, taking Arthur into her arms and holding him tight against her chest. She looked out over the calm, sparkling waters of the lake, feeling the warm evening breeze against her face.
