Chapter 8 - The New Era

Six months later.
The spring sun shone brightly over Charlotte Presbyterian Hospital. In a private, sunlit suite on the top floor, the sound of a baby's soft, rhythmic breathing filled the quiet room.
Grace lay in the wide hospital bed, tired but radiant, holding a beautiful baby boy wrapped in a blue fleece blanket.
Sitting around the room were Marcus, Julian, and Gabriel. The three terrifying titans of the business world looked hilariously out of place, sitting on small pastel-colored visitor chairs, staring at the newborn with pure, unadulterated awe.
"He's got the Vance chin," Julian declared, reaching out a scarred finger, which the baby instantly clamped onto with surprising strength. "Look at that grip. He's going to be a linebacker."
"He's going to be a lawyer," Gabriel corrected dryly. "He already has a better grip on assets than Ethan ever did."
Marcus chuckled, stepping up to the side of the bed and looking down at his sister and nephew. "What's his name, Gracie?"
Grace looked down at her son's sweet, peaceful face, her heart overflowing with a deep, unbreakable joy.
"Arthur," she whispered. "Arthur Vance Walker. But we're dropping the Walker. His name is Arthur Vance."
Marcus smiled, a rare, warm expression that lit up his hard features. "Dad would have loved that."
A quiet knock sounded at the door. Gabriel stepped over and opened it.
A private investigator dressed in a dark suit stood in the hallway, holding a small leather folder. He leaned in and whispered something to Gabriel, handing him a single sheet of paper.
Gabriel nodded, closed the door, and walked back to the bed.
"What is it, Gabe?" Grace asked.
"Ethan tried to file a petition for parental visitation rights this morning," Gabriel said calmly.
Grace's breath caught slightly. "And?"
May you like
Gabriel smiled—a sharp, cold smile that held absolute legal finality. "The judge took one look at the signed surrender documents, the police report from the night of your anniversary, and his current employment status, and issued a permanent, non-expiring restraining order. He is legally barred from ever approaching Arthur, contacting you, or entering the county where you reside. If he violates it, he goes directly to state prison for five years."
Grace let out a long, peaceful breath, leaning her head back against the pillows. "Thank you, Gabe."
