Chapter 7 - The Unspoken Confession

They moved to the center of the grand dance floor as the orchestra began playing a slow, sweeping waltz.

Dante placed his hand gently around her waist, pulling her flush against his broad chest, while Nora placed her hand on his dark shoulder. They moved together effortlessly, as if they had been dancing together for a lifetime.

The world around them faded into a meaningless blur of lights, music, and distant faces. For those few minutes, there were no mafia wars, no rivalries, no police, and no past trauma. There was only the heat of his body against hers, the deep sound of his breathing, and the absolute safety of his grip.

“You were incredible back there,” Nora whispered, looking up into his eyes. “You completely dismantled him without firing a single shot.”

“I told you,” Dante murmured, his eyes locked onto her lip, which had almost completely healed. “I protect what is mine.”

Nora’s heart hammered against her chest. “Am I yours, Dante?”

Dante stopped dancing, standing still in the middle of the whirling crowd. He looked down at her, his expression raw, exposed, and stripped of all his usual corporate armor.

“From the moment I saw you walk out of that corporate meeting six months ago,” he said softly, his voice trembling with rare emotion. “You were all I thought about. Every night I sat in my office, reading reports of your life, wishing I was a man who could simply walk up to you and ask you out for coffee. But I knew my world was dark, violent, and bloodstained. I wanted to keep you clean from it.”

He touched her cheek gently, his calloused thumb tracing her skin.

“Then I saw that bastard raise his hand against you,” Dante continued, his jaw tightening. “And I realized that hiding in the shadows wasn't protecting you. It was keeping me from the only thing that could ever make me human again.”

Tears welled in Nora’s eyes. “Dante...”

“I love you, Nora,” he confessed, the three words carrying the weight of a man who had never uttered them to anyone in his entire life. “I know I am a dangerous man. I know my life is surrounded by threats. But if you give me the chance, I will spend every second of my remaining life keeping you safe, cherished, and loved.”

Nora didn't answer with words.

She stood on her tiptoes, wrapped her arms around his neck, and pulled his head down, pressing her lips against his in a deep, passionate kiss right in the center of the crowded ballroom.

Dante let out a low growl of pure relief and desire, his arms tightening around her waist, lifting her slightly off her feet as he kissed her back with a fierce, possessive passion that made the rest of the world melt away completely.

When they finally separated, breathless and glowing, the music was coming to an end.

Marco approached them quickly, a subtle look of concern on his face. “Boss. We need to leave. Moretti’s men are clearing out, but emergency vehicles are approaching Pier 42. Federal agents have just launched raided his assets based on the files we leaked.”

Dante nodded once, never taking his eyes off Nora. “Let’s go home.”
