Chapter 9 - A New Dawn

Three weeks later.

The city had undergone a massive, historic shift. The fall of Victor Moretti’s syndicate had cleared the streets of corruption, drug trafficking, and corporate extortion. The legal system, stripped of Moretti’s payoffs, had finally processed a permanent, non-negotiable federal protection order against Bradley Jenkins, who was now serving a fifteen-year sentence in a maximum-security federal prison for corporate espionage and extortion.

Nora stood on the sun-drenched balcony of the Vane Estate, wearing a comfortable white sweater, sipping a warm cup of tea. Her cheek had completely healed, leaving no trace of the violence she had suffered three weeks ago.

Behind her, heavy, warm arms slid around her waist, pulling her back against a broad, solid chest.

Dante buried his face in the crook of her neck, pressing a soft kiss against her skin.

“You’re up early,” he murmured softly, his voice warm and relaxed—a tone he only ever used with her.

“I was watching the sunrise,” Nora replied, turning around in his arms to face him. She reached up, adjusting the collar of his crisp white shirt. “I spoke with my sister this morning.”

Dante raised an eyebrow. “How is she?”

“She’s wonderful,” Nora smiled warmly. “She asked if you and I would come over for Sunday dinner. My niece wants to show you her new drawing of a lion.”

Dante chuckled—a low, genuine sound that filled Nora’s heart with pure joy. “A lion? I would be honored to accept.”

He led her over to a sunlit table on the balcony where breakfast was laid out. As they sat down, Dante pulled a sleek leather folder from his pocket and placed it gently in front of her.

Nora looked at it curiously. “What’s this?”

“Open it,” he said gently.

Nora opened the folder. Inside were the grand deed and corporate registry for a historic, beautiful brownstone building located in the heart of the city’s legal district. Below the deed was a official state charter registered under a new name:

The Vance Legal Foundation for Women and Children.

Nora gasped, her hand flying to her mouth as tears welled in her eyes. “Dante... what is this?”

“You told me once that your ultimate dream was to create a safe legal sanctuary for women who had no voice, no money, and no way to escape abusive situations,” Dante said softly, reaching out to hold her hand. “It is fully funded for the next fifty years. You are the absolute Director and Managing Partner. No corporate boards, no corrupt partners, no political pressure. It is yours.”

Nora stared at the documents, completely overwhelmed by the magnitude of his love. “I don't know what to say...”

“You don't have to say anything,” Dante murmured, rising from his chair and walking over to kneel beside her. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, velvet box, opening it to reveal a flawless, stunning six-carat emerald-cut diamond ring that sparkled wildly under the morning sun.

Nora’s breath hitched completely.

“Nora Vance,” Dante said, his slate-gray eyes burning with pure, unyielding devotion. “You came into my dark, violent world and brought light where there was only shadow. You showed me that I was capable of loving someone more than my own life. Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?”

Nora didn't hesitate for even a microsecond.

May you like

“Yes!” she cried out, tears of pure happiness streaming down her face. “Yes, absolute yes!”

Dante smiled brightly, sliding the diamond ring onto her finger before standing up and pulling her into a breathtaking kiss that seemed to stop time itself.
