PART 10 — THE LAST PIECE OF THE PUZZLE

PART 10 — THE LAST PIECE OF THE PUZZLE

For several seconds, nobody spoke.

The room felt smaller.

The walls felt closer.

The air felt impossible to breathe.

The final sentence kept echoing in my head.

“They don’t need the girl anymore.”

“They need the mother.”

Me.

Not Lily.

Me.

I looked at my daughter.

Her small hand was still wrapped around mine.

She trusted me completely.

And suddenly I understood something.

This was never just about money.

It was never just about the trust.

It was about control.

Someone had been moving every person around like pieces on a chessboard.

Mark immediately turned to the officers.

“Secure the house.”

One officer nodded.

“We need to move everyone somewhere safe.”

I held Lily closer.

But Daniel stepped forward.

“Emily.”

I looked at him.

His face was different.

No more hiding.

No more hesitation.

“I owe you the truth.”

I didn’t answer.

He continued.

“The night Jason disappeared…”

Everyone became quiet.

“I saw him.”

My heart tightened.

“What?”

Daniel looked down.

“He came to me because he believed someone was following him.”

“Who?”

Daniel swallowed.

“Richard.”

The name again.

The missing accountant.

The man connected to the trust.

“He gave me a file.”

Daniel said.

“A file about your father’s money.”

I froze.

“You had it?”

Daniel nodded.

“I was going to tell you.”

“When?”

I asked.

The pain in my voice was impossible to hide.

“When everything was already destroyed?”

He closed his eyes.

“I was scared.”

Of course.

Everyone was scared.

Everyone except me.

Because I was the one who had to survive the consequences.

“What was in the file?”

Daniel looked at Mark.

Then answered.

“Proof.”

“Proof that Richard was stealing from the trust.”

“And proof that someone inside the family helped him.”

My mother-in-law suddenly looked away.

I noticed.

“Who?”

I asked.

Nobody answered.

Then the front door opened.

Everyone turned.

An officer walked in.

“We found something outside.”

He held a small envelope.

My name was written on it.

Emily.

My hands went cold.

“No…”

Mark stopped me.

“Don’t touch it.”

The officer opened it carefully.

Inside was a single photo.

A picture of me.

Taken recently.

At my house.

While I was sleeping.

My stomach turned.

Someone had been there.

Watching.

The officer flipped the photo.

On the back was a message.

“You were always easy to predict.”

Then another line:

“Come alone if you want the truth.”

Daniel immediately shook his head.

“No.”

Absolutely not.

But I wasn’t listening.

Because there was one more thing.

At the bottom of the note:

A location.

And a name.

Jason Miller.

My breath caught.

“He wants me to go.”

Daniel grabbed my hand.

“No.”

“He wants a trap.”

I looked at him.

“And what if it isn’t?”

Silence.

Because none of us knew anymore.

The truth had been buried under so many lies.

Mark stepped closer.

“We don’t follow the note.”

“He expects that.”

“We set a plan.”

The officers agreed.

But before anyone could move…

Lily spoke.

A tiny voice.

“Mommy.”

Everyone looked at her.

She was staring at the teddy bear.

The bear sitting inside the evidence bag.

Her face suddenly changed.

“I know him.”

My heart stopped.

“Who, sweetheart?”

She pointed.

“At the bear.”

Nobody moved.

“What do you mean?”

She touched her chest.

“He talked to me.”

The room went silent.

Daniel looked confused.

“Lily…”

She nodded.

“Before I opened it.”

I knelt beside her.

“What did he say?”

Her eyes filled with fear.

“He said…”

She whispered:

“Don’t trust Mommy’s family.”

A chill ran through me.

Because a child’s memory can be strange.

But Lily remembered.

And then she said the words that destroyed everything:

“He also said…”

“He was sorry.”

I froze.

“Who was sorry?”

Lily looked at me.

The answer came softly.

“Daddy Jason.”

Everyone stopped breathing.

Because if Jason had been trying to warn her…

Then who had been controlling the entire game?

And why was someone trying so hard to make us believe he was the enemy?

Then Mark’s phone rang.

He answered.

A few seconds later, his face changed.

“What?”

Everyone watched him.

Then he slowly lowered the phone.

“We found Richard.”

My heart jumped.

“Where?”

Mark looked at me.

His voice was quiet.

“He’s dead.”

Silence.

“And?”

Mark swallowed.

“They found one final message on his phone.”

“What message?”

He looked at Daniel.

Then at me.

And said:

“The real mastermind is someone you trust.”

Everyone turned.

Because now the question wasn’t:

Who was lying?

The question was:

May you like

Who was telling the truth?

THE ENDING WILL REVEAL EVERYTHING…
